Talking This might be my next home

Well, I just wanted to share some pictures with my XDtalk family.

I've been thinking a great deal lately about my life, my situations (family, financial, etc), my dreams/desires, and my future. And after much focused thought (and some "counsel" from friends), I've decided to change some things in my life and try something new. I won't get into details and bore everyone about my situations and thought process (depending on which threads you read here you may already know), but be assured I've spent a LOT of time thinking things through.

And, without further delay, here are some photos I took today of my new home. I haven't bought it yet, but it's my 1st choice so far. It's a Pilgrim International "Open Road" RV (5th Wheel), Model 368-5 LS.

It's a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath RV.

Overall view (entry side):

Left side = 2nd bedroom (stacked windows)
Middle = kitchen and entry door
Right side = main bedroom
(sorry for the weird photo - it was a pieced-together panorama view)

View of Living Room into Main Bedroom:

Hide-a-bed couch (on super slider), overhead cabinets, small entertainment center (openings for TV/VCR/DVD), view up the stairs into main bedroom.

View of kitchen:

Double sided sink, microwave, 3-burner cooktop, small oven, and frig/freezer (right side of pic), and lots of cabinet space.

Refrigerator/Freezer:

Pantry:

Bins are adjustable. Frig/freezer doors to the left. You can see into the 2nd bedroom (bunks) to right, too.

View from top of steps into living area:

At the front of the photo is the extended counter that has 2 stools (just off of picture) for a quick meal. The door to the rear leads to the 2nd bedroom. Dining room is in the rear right corner of pic (also on super slider). On that bare wall to the right of the door I'd be putting a small portable computer desk so I could work (and check on the forum of course).

View of Dining Room:

There's storage under each booth seat. And if you disassemble the table and rest it between the seats (on supports) and use the back cushions on top of the table, you get another little bed.

View of 2nd bedroom:

Bunk bed, wardrobe/storage, and around the corner (in the bedroom) is a small entertainment center for TV/DVD, a large closet, and a powder room w/ storage.

View of main bedroom's bed and over head storage:

The head of the bed is on a slider, too, so it opens up the bedroom about 2.5 feet.

Under-the-bed storage:

More of the main bedroom:

You can see into the large closet (straight ahead), and to the right is an entertainment cabinet (for TV/VCR/DVD), and a built-in dresser w/ lots of drawers.

Well, that's all the pictures I've uploaded. I do have more, but this should give everyone an overall idea of the "feel" of the place.

What I haven't shown you pictures of is:

- Main bathroom: residential corner shower (glass enclosure), freestanding sink w/ medicine cabinet, separate toilet room, and a large closet w/ washer/dryer hookup.

- 2nd bedroom's powder room w/ freestanding sink and medicine cabinet, and lots of storage.

- 2nd bedroom's large closet w/ openings for TV and DVD/VCR and cabinet storage.

- Outside storage areas ("basement"). One is a pass-through area, and another is up front where the battery is kept. Plus there are two propane tanks (one on each side). There's also an outside access door at the bottom bunk area for storage under the whole bed!

- Outside auxiliary shower, connection panel (50 amp electrical, city water, cable, satellite, phone, sani-flush system), and huge retractable awning.

...

Well, that's it: possibly my next new home (after I sell my current house). Since this is a 5th wheel RV I'm also looking into a tow vehicle (i.e. heavy duty pickup).

Plus, there are a few necessities for RVing I'm planning on getting, like: gas-powered generator (for recharging the battery and running high-power items), larger inverter (for running my computer equipment), additional fresh water tank (a portable one for in truck), maceration pump and smaller portable tanks for hauling waste to dump sites, an additional battery, and of course a decent hitch.

So, possibly in the near future, I'll be typing to everyone from my RV! And the cool thing about it is I can move it and live almost wherever I want. And I can pick up and go somewhere for a mini-vacation. And I don't even need to be hooked up to a campsite w/ electric/water/sewer: I can stay in the boondocks if I want - that's the whole point of an RV: mobility AND self-contained, with all the comforts of home!

Hope you enjoyed my pictures. I just took them this afternoon. I spent at least an hour inside the RV at the dealer's, just to "kick the tires" so to speak and check everything out, lay in the beds, sit in the furniture, and inspect everything. And most importantly, to imagine myself living in it full-time for a while.

I definitely am excited about the whole thing!

Well, take care everyone. Thanks for stopping by and reading/looking!

Looks really nice, Dave. When I worked in aviation, many of my fellow contractors simply traveled the country living out of their RV's and travel trailers following the work. If you're not a packrat and enjoy living light it's a nice way to be, at least for a little while. Keep us posted with the ongoing adventure.

Looks good, my parents bought a 5th wheel camper over the summer. Enjoy.

I'm thinking of something like a Ford F350, SRW, diesel, w/ tow package (or the Chevy/Dodge equivalent). Possibly an F250. It all depends on the towing capacity, GVWR of the 5th Wheel, etc.

Basically I'm not brand loyal - I just want the best vehicle for the towing job.

Thanks again for all the positive comments, guys!

And I forgot to mention: I've discussed this whole idea w/ my kids, and they've been in one 5th Wheel (not this one) to see the "size" of things. They're really excited, too!

The good thing about an RV (other than the mobility factor), is that once I'm married and living in my fiancee's new house w/ her, the RV will become a second home and dedicated to vacationing w/ the family, and a great opportunity for me to bond more w/ them while showing them more of their Country.

Might catch some heat for this but stay away from the Ford 6.0 Powerstroke. If you want reliability, the new Chevy's with Duramax's are pretty good. If you want the ultimate in reliability and power, Dodge with the Cummins is it, bar none. But I am biased...
