Not to bad looking Dave, I have an Airstream and lived in mine while on the road pipelining, and all my In-laws have Jayco Designers or Mountainaire's 5th wheels, we are all brand loyal to Chevy, would not pull one without a Duramax 2500 HD or 3500 with an Allison Transmission.

I think you are making the best decision by getting one. You can find a spot of land to put it on and really save money in the long run. Or find an RV park that has cable and phone and try to find one that lets pay for a spot monthly with elec, water, sewage, cable included you will come out cheaper than paying for your elec, because they jack up the prices for the KW an hour.

Biased, huh? I guess I know what you have. Thanks for the info.

Reloading bench? Hah! I wish. Gun safe will be left in the store, as I can't afford the money OR weight of a safe in the RV. Everything is weight-sensitive (new concept to me). I'll have locks on all of my guns though. And I'm not even close to retiring. This is just for living a different lifestyle.

Thanks for the info on the pickups. And thanks for those words of encouragement, because sometimes I think I'm insane for even considering this huge lifestyle change.

It is not a hugh lifestyle change, because living in mine from time to time off working I should have done that earlier in life and gotten one.

In a few ways it will be a lifestyle change for me. I'll now have limited storage space, limited water/electric supplies, limited weight capacity, etc.

I've always been a pack-rat, and I've been going through so much crap in my house that it's overwhelming to realize just how much crap I've accumulated, with the thought of "I better keep this - I may need it later" but I've been forcing myself to toss old bills, payment confirmations, bank account transfers, bank statements, etc from 2001 thru 2007!!!

I've always had some space around me, too. I currently own a 3 bedroom house w/ attic storage and a full basement. Now I'll be going "down" to a 38'x8' box w/ no attic storage and very little "basement" storage.

Plus, I've never owned or driven a big pickup truck.

And I've certainly never towed a trailer or tried backing one up into a space!

It'll certainly be an experience! And maybe it's not a lifestyle change to some, but for me, I think it is.

Dave, as I said in your other thread about the 5th wheel, I would highly recommend a 1 ton dually truck with the size/weight RV you plan on getting. Also, get a crew cab for the family in the back seat.

Remember, when you are towing and considering total gross vehicle weight, you have to add in passengers and equipment in the bed of the truck (5th wheel hitch and whatever else you might store there) and the weight of the RV + the weight of the stuff packed inside it.

A 1 ton, I believe would be the minimum, unless you want to go up a 7% grade hill at 25mph. You might even want to consider or at least ask the RV dealer/Truck Dealer if a vehicle on the scale of a F450 might be better. I'm not saying a Ford, just that size; I believe Chevy and Dodge make something in that range also. You really want to be sure you have enough truck for what RV you will be towing and how much will be loaded in the RV.

The worst thing would be to buy the setup and then find out you have too little truck for your needs. That would be an expensive mistake.

Dang the heat! The 6.0 is a REAL Piece of Sh!t! I am the supervisor of an ambulance service and we have had nothing but trouble out of the 6.0's! DO NOT buy a Ford with a 6.0 in it! Go with Chevy/Duramax. Better quality and better fuel economy.

When you decide ont he truck just have the trailer dealership install the hitch and braking system. But if you are not planning on pulling it your self most dealership's will pull it to the park you want in a close range and set it up for you.

If you plan in pulling a good bit, get the sliding hitch, it will help.
