Spam campaign supporting Ron Paul discovered (This is a Politically Motivated Thread)
A University of Alabama study analyzing spam has uncovered an organized spam campaign designed to give the impression that Ron Paul has more support than he actually does.
Criminal' Botnet Stumps for Ron Paul, Researchers Allege By Sarah Lai Stirland ![]() If Texas congressman Ron Paul is elected president in 2008, he may be the first leader of the free world put into power with the help of a global network of hacked PCs spewing spam, according to computer-security researchers who've analyzed a recent flurry of e-mail supporting the long-shot Republican candidate. http://www.wired.com/politics/securi...07/10/paul_bot |

I guess you conveniently linked to the article in the hope that no one would read the last line

I never claimed that the Paul campaign was directly involved. It appears that supporters of RP are using deceptive and perhaps illegal means to make his support seem greater than it is. I don't find this at all surprising; look at how well RP does in internet polls and how poorly he does in telephone polls. I think this is interesting because it is the first proof that there is some manipulation going on. |

As for the "first proof that there is some manipulation going on", it could also be a desperation claim by those who do not embrace conspiracy, yet will do anything to discredit his potential, or worse, it might even be found that the big machine is behind the spambot Time will tell. But I will say, whoever is behind it should be exposed and potentially fined.

It might be that RP's support is an inch wide and a mile deep. In other words, not that many people support him (see his poor performance in telephone polls), but those that do are willing to go to great efforts on his behalf (run spambot campaigns and donate significant amount of money).

I liked how he stated that he can't trust the FOX telephone polls Oh, yea, RP won that one also. Darned rigged systems! The inch wide, mile deep thing sounds more like Hillary. Few supporters, big contributions.

Yeah sure, here's the link:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epo...192.html#polls I followed the links to the top five polls listed on realclearpolitics.com and here's what I found for RP's support: Rasmussen: 3% Quinnipiac: 2% Fox: 1% Pew: 3% LA Times: 2% Pretty darn consistent that RP is polling pretty close to the margin of error for the poll, i.e., there is no statistical confidence that RP actually has any meaningful support. |
