glock died :(
Hi all,
It finally happened. My G-21 went KB! And as I have always said...It was related to reloaded ammo...mine I did not watch my reloading process good enough and double dumped a case before I changed over to my new dillon press. No injury to me to mention howeverthe gun was scrap.... Blew out the barrel and split down the side @ 4 and 6 o'clock and blew the epansion chamber down 1/4 inch...blew out mag ,base pad and ammo....trigger desintigrated....mag release gone, slide stop gone . Actually blew the barrel back to where the barrel locking lugs were directly over the mag well. Only thing salvageable was the slide and maybe the frame. Will I by another Glock....You gosh Darn right I will! This was not the guns fault. It was my stupidity and careless reloading that caused the problem. Even though it had tens of thousands of rounds thru it the gun did what anygun would do with a double load of powder. Hpefully my new dillon press will not allow this to happen again. I wanted to share this with everyone to let you know that you must remain focused on the task at hand or you might lose it! I have reloaded thousands of rounds and it only took one moment of distraction to cause an expensive problem! On the lighter side though...This means I get a NEW G-21 with the O. D. green Frame!!!!!!!!...lol Life is good.

Was the double charge loaded with a dillon press or are you buying the dillon so it wont happen again? I am really really really close to going to a progressive.

Never loaded pistol ammuntion but with rifle ammuntion I aways picked a powder that filled that case making a double charge very easy to detect. Given the small case volume I am sort of suprise you had room to get a double charge and still fully seat the bullet.
Glad you did not get hurt! mcb |

It's also possible to get no powder into a case with a Dillon, but again it's difficult. One must always pay attention and not get into TOO much of a hurry. At least a squib load is generally less dangerous than a double load.

I agree with MCB.
I am now using powders that require more than 60% case capacity when loaded to my desired level. This prevents a doble charge. I was into the very fast burning powders for economy but now I am into using what works well. -Dana

I was using Berrys 200 grn SWCwith 4.8 grns of Vita Vorhi n320. This was NOT done on the Dillon but on a single stage. However we are not sure if it was infact a double charge and possiblity of metal stress due to a squib round .
During the last match.. I thought I had a FTF...did a quick slide rack and fired the next shot....making 2 holes with one shot. We...Our gun smith and buddies...think that the overpressure from the round fired with the squib weakened the barrel. The barrel did not break then and the gun continuend to function. after the match I cleand and checked the gun to see if there was a visible problem and found none. Next weekened I shot another match...190rds into the match the barrel gave way. we are now thinking this may have been the reason. Will try to post some picks as soon as possible.
