What was the first meeting like with your wife/girlfriends father
There was a thread posted a few weeks ago about someones daughter (sorry can't remember who started it) going on her first date. That got me to thinking about the first time I met my now father-in-law. I went over to my girlfriends house to meet her parents, she let me in and I was standing in the middle of the family room talking to her and her brother. I was only standing there for a few minutes (kinda nervous and a little edgy) when all of the sudden someone grabbed me from behind and started sqeezing the crap outa me in a bear hug, this is where things went way wrong. I have been wrestling since I was about 5 years old and in and out of various martial arts during that time, anyway my instincts/training kicked in, I bent my knees dropped all my weight reached back and grabbed behind the knees of who had me and stood straight up. There was a big thud behind me and I turned around to see what/who had me, It was my girlfriends(now wife) father. My wife and brother-in-law were falling out of their chairs laughing and I was in a total state of shock, I had never met this man in my life I come over to meet him and the first thing I do is drop him on his a$$, I thought for sure he was gonna be a tad upset with me and I was ready for the get the hell out of my house comment. He looked up at me and said, Hey you aren't Ed (one of my BIL friends) I was appologizing like a madman and my wife and BIL were still laughing so hard the were crying at this point. I helped him up and he gave me a stern look and at that point my wife , through her tears of laughter, introduced me, Dad this is Bret, Bret this is my dad Tim. He started to laugh and said I thought you were someone else I looked at him and said So did I. From that point on he and I have gotten along great. He is one of the greatest men I have met in my life. Any way thats my story what are some of yours?

Haha, that's a GREAT story! No way I can come close to topping that one. I simply went over to the house and was invited in, and ALL her family (4 siblings and parents) we starring at me with this silly grin on their faces. Her Dad was very friendly and shook my hand, and that was about it......oh, and then Zombies started crawling through the windows so I shot them all and saved the day and they all gave us their blessing and we lived happily ever after. Sorry, it was too boring, lol.

So if you really like the girl, drop dad on his ass. I'll pass that along

That was my post about my daughter...
I don't recall the first time I met my FIL, but I recall the day we told the in-laws we were getting married. Her father is not a great conversationalist unless you are talking about cars, vintage motorcycles, or sports. We were in their living room and he was standing in the doorway between the living room and the kitchen...we announced we were engaged and he said, "Well, that's something (there there was a pause and he continues), how about the Bronco's this year?" I thought it quite fitting from him since he was a pretty casual guy.

Ah yes, marriage...I remember asking him for his daughter's hand! All he did was get this huge smile, and I mean HUGE, and then simply said in a quiet voice, "Welcome to the family!" Good feelings.

I actually had lunch with my now FIL before I took my now wife on a date. That was the most intimidating experience I've ever been through. I thought for sure he was going to tell me to take a hike. Anyway, it was a very genial lunch, and he said, "So, let's not beat around the bush. Why do you want to get to know my daughter?" I was 21 at the time and could only say something to the effect of, "Well, I have known her for a while and I like her a lot. We get along well... we've been friends for years. So..." He said he's have his eye on me. I was scared, but elated. It was a good day.

I have never had issue with my FIL. He is sooo awesome. We used to go golfing, snowmobiling and hunting together. It was always fun. Now on the other hand my MIL is a fireball that wants me to burn. I guess I have too strong of a will for her that she can not control. My other BIL is her buddy and he kisses her you know.

Her father is no longer living so I never met him. However, I did have to deal with her two brothers. They were kinda' like good cop bad cop. One was really cool and we had a lot fun together. The other was kinda' cold, and it took a while for him to trust me. I sort of expected that since he was the older of the two brothers and had to fill the guardian/protector role for his sisters.
