One of these days I'll get him out shooting again. He's not totaly blind, he's says its like looking through very cloudy water, no color or definition, but I think if I get him within 15' or so of a lifesize profile target he might do OK.
No problem...we've all got to much in our heads to remember every little thread...even mine!

I am sure your FIL would love a day out at the range. There are blind golfers, why not blind shooters...everyone needs a spotter now and then!

We don't see much of our families since we live in south florida and they live in Colorado/Arizona/New Hampshire...always enjoy getting together with them when we do, though.

That's a really long, and horrible experience. Let's just say we don't get along. Good enough for me since she hates him.

She's got a helluva good stepfather though, who has liked me from the start.

Met my FIL for the first time at the airport in Portland, OR. My wife and I were in the Navy, on leave, and on our way to Iceland. I had only talked to him a few times on the phone before we met. The wife and I were already engaged and I wasn't real sure how it was gonna go with me being 17 and my wife 21. On the way out of the airport parking lot he reaches back across the front seat to hand me a flask of whiskey and says, "Here, I think you might need some of this". He was right.

A few days later when I finally got the nerve to ask for his daughter's hand he just laughed and said, "Are you sure? She's pretty headstrong". We always got along great. He was "Dad" to me for 34 years and he always treated me like a son. We lost him earlier this year at 81.

Meeting my future FIL was uneventful, but her grandfather was another story. He was about 5'10, fireplug type of body, had lost a leg early in life due to polio, and was very protective of his oldest grand-daughter.

Anyhow, we went over to his house one winter evening, had supper, and I thought everything was going fine. After dinner he asked me to help him bring in some firewood from the woodshed. I said sure, and follow him out to the shed. Once inside, this gimpy old man whips out a rusty Barlow knife, flips it open, sticks it towards my chin, and tells me "If you ever hurt my grand-daughter I will f@cking cut you".

I stammered some type of reply, and then we carried the firewood into the house. Everyone inside was smiling, turns out this was standard fare for when his daughters were dating, and he should continue the tradition with his grand-daughters.

I didn't think it was all that funny at the time.

my FIL & i both LOVE cherry coke.. it's liquid crack!

the wife & i were living in new orleans for a yr & we came back to visit the in-laws. this was a few months prior proposing to my wife, so my FIL & i are talking @ the dinner table about what his daughter was worth. after some bartering, i wrote up a note saying that i'd take her off his hands for a 2-liter of cherry coke, @ the time 99 cents plus a nickel deposit. ..sure enough, on our wedding day i held true to the deal & gave him a bottle of the liquid goodness.

my in-laws are the kindest, coolest, most laid back people around.. my MIL makes me cookie dough & broccoli salad to eat & the FIL lets me drive the tractors, shoot my guns on the farm, & ride my dirtbike all over. i am incredibly lucky!

I have not met the father of my wife of 15 years. He has been in a Texas prison for 20 years. If I ever meet him face to face, it will not be because I put forth any effort to make it happen and it will likely not end well for him.

You cannot legislate morality, and banning inanimate objects will never substitute for personal responsibility. Banning and limiting things merely makes them profitable to criminals via laws of supply and demand.
