Missouri CCW

As I've been reading on the site, I see Missouri now has CCW.

Can someone tell me how long they have had it?
Has it only been the last couple years?
Did Illinois ever get CCW?

I used to date a girl from St. Louis.
We went to see her family two or three times a year.
Her step-dad, a 25 year retired SLPD, said they didn't have any conceal and carry.
Every time we went up there, from Dallas, he told me I had to stop at the state border, unload my weapon, and keep the gun and ammo stored separately.
This was a few years back.
Was he bullsh*tting me or what?

I plan on driving to Chicago next year and was wondering what has changed as far as conceal and carry, over the last couple years up that way.

I know Okla, Ark, and Louisiana, and many other states, allow me to carry using my Texas CHL.

Thanks for any info on this matter..................

According to this map, Illinois does not have CCW. I don't know how accurate the map is.

Illinois and WI, the ONLY two states that don't have any form of CCW. Bastards!

Missouri has had CCW for over 4 years now I think. They honor most out-of-state permits but you probably want to visit the handgun laws link above to see which ones. Illinois definitely is NOT CCW friendly so don't wear your gun through there...

Missouri honors ALL out-of-state permits. Stay away from Illinois especially if you are carrying a gun with or without a permit. If you must enter Il., break it down, lock it in a container in the trunk and keep the ammo separate and still hope you don't get pulled over and searched.

You don't have to consent to a police search. Unless they have a warrant or probable cause or you left something in plain view, they have to ask you first. It's a violation of your civil rights to be searched on an officer's whim. You can be patted down for weapons ("Terry" search), but they cannot just go into your pockets, trunk, glove box, etc. You have that right.

We are talking about Illinois. Probable cause is largely left to the officer's discretion at the scene and his/her interpretation of the situation. I agree with your points made, but my experience has been that if something bad can happen, it will happen at the worst possible moment.

The best thing to do (in my opinion of course)if an officer is trying to bully you into a search- or even just asking to search politely is to assert clearly and politely that you do not consent to any searches. If they have reasonable cause or a warrant, they don't have to ask, and will not ask- they'll just do it. If they ask, it shows that they are aware that they need your consent and in my opinion you should never consent.
It's possible that they will say "if you aren't hiding anything then what are you worried about?" I would respond, "I am not hiding anything, and i am worried about getting to where i am going without being delayed by unnecessary searches," which would be the truth. I also feel that my rights are important, and will never voluntarily give them up, but i wouldn't say that unless pressed, because i think some leo's would take that as a challenge from some sort of activist that they are trying to be the gestapo-- and in some cases that might be right too lol.
I have no intent to make life difficult for any police officer, but i also don't have a responsibility to give up my rights to make their job easier any more than they have a responsibility to help me fish a wall at a customer's house when i am at work.

sigh...

I know you're right, the police can make up whatever reason they want to search you, but it really boils my blood to think that people would ever let their police become that way. Seriously... my blood pressure jumps dangerously high when I hear about people just accepting their rights being violated. If that's the case, then the people of Illinois deserve to live that way.

A right not exercised (and fiercely defended) is a right lost.

Now that's a good line. I agree with the rest, but that's a good line
