Exclamation Why do we carry?

To try and prevent things like this.

http://www.komotv.com/news/8922682.html

Quote:
SEATTLE -- A birthday party turned to chaos Sunday morning when a woman was stabbed to death by her ex-husband in front of dozens of people, and then the man was shot and killed by a man who witnessed the stabbing, Seattle police said.

Police say it all happened just before 1:30 a.m. at the VFW Post 6599 and Ladies Auxiliary Building on Martin Luther King Way South in South Seattle.

Witnesses told police there were group of about 40-50 people there celebrating a birthday when a man walked in looking for his 33-year-old ex-wife, who had a restraining order against him.

They say the man found his ex, and then grabbed her and started stabbing her. Other people tried to hit him with chairs and tables to stop him, but they say the man kept stabbing the woman -- even cutting other people in the process -- until someone else pulled out a gun and shot him.

Medics tried to help the victim, but she had already died. Her ex-husband was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he later died.

Homicide detectives questioned the shooter and then released him. The shooter apparently did not know the man he shot or the woman who was stabbed, but police say he had a license to carry a gun. Detectives took the gun into custody as matter of procedure.

The victim's name has not been released. But one person at the party told KOMO 4 News that the couple had a 2-year-old daughter together, and that the victim had four children total.
Unfortunately, the guy was too late to help, but at least the SOB didn't get away.

I know it's a little dated, but it's still relevant.

He will get his gun back, It's probably not gonna be anytime soon but eventually. I am glad the BG got what he deserved and I hope nothing happens to the shooter.

I have questions though

So what VFW does not sell adult beverages by the drink?

What State is there where it is legal to carry in such an establishment?

Do most cops look at this law as if you are not drinking what's the harm?

there's in excess of, i believe, 30 states that allow carry where alcohol is served and quite a few that allow you to drink while carrying, just like driving, as long as you are under the legal limit. can't quote the number, but just give it a search.

From what I have read in a few posts from the Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association (www.pafoa.org) site, this state doesn't restrict firearms carry in places that serve alcohol. The only time it becomes an issue if you are involved in a shooting while legally intoxicated yourself.

If that's true, then I'm sure there are other states that let you carry in places that serve alcohol as well.

That is a horrible situation certainly for the little girl
I wonder if the man shot during the stabbing or after or if there was even a threat when he took that shot
In MN you cannot use deadly force unless the person in a close family member I guess it is a little tricky in MN

Connecticut law allows carrying in places that serve alcohol as well. If you drink in amounts simliar to the amounts allowed for driving that is illegal though. Also, the board of public safety's website says that while not illegal "mature judgement" says you shouldn't do it. I don't drink, so my mature judgement tells me its ok for me.
It's too bad the woman didn't survive. Those kids are now without both parents from one day to the next... Not that having the murdering dad would have been so great, but i feel for them.
