CCW Lic for Florida
This is for all the Florida members here. I am currently in the process of applying for a Non resident CCW License for Florida, and had a question about question 6, have you received training with a firearm. This question seems very open, as being in Maryland we don’t have CCW specific classes, so I am not sure what I can use to satisfy this requirement. I have my Maryland State Police Safety Training course certificate, but not sure if this will do or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
For those wondering why I am applying for a Florida Non Resident permit, the answer is Flordia has reciprocity with all the states that I travel too regularly VA, PA, DE, OH and FL. While I can’t carry in my home state, at least when I am traveling to conduct business once I am in those states I can CC legally. Thanks for any help in advance guys.

IIRC, the book of gun laws I got with my application had a list of different training that would be acceptable. Hopefully you also got that book with your app. I'd hate for you to be applying and not know that laws for the state. I think that packing.org probably has that information too.

I did indeed, in fact I was amazed how fast my packet got here, I ordered some info from my own state governmant on the same day and got the packet from FL in 4 Days, 2 weeks later the info from my own state showed up. Heres what I am wondering if is acceptable for me
"A photocopy of a certificate or card showing completion of a hunter education or safety course approved by the fish and widelife conservation commission or a similar state agency of another state" As my is issued by the Maryland State Police does it count or? Just not trying to send my application in and have them say that does not count and lose $117. It does not really state what the course has to include, as oviously mine had nothing to do with CCW, it was basic safty. Just called the Number on the app, and they where unsure as well so thats not a good sign. Think I will be looking for a NRA Safty class within reassoable driving distance.

I do know that I was able to use my hunter education class as suffucuent training, but it was done in Florida. The funny thing is, it has nothing to do at all with handguns or CCW and I took it when I was 16.

I got mine under my DD214, but I did call them to ask if I could use my Colorado hunters ed cert from back when I was 13...and they said "YES!" I could not believe my ears.
IIRC, they are pretty easy to get ahold of on the phone, give that a try before sending your packet in. Good luck.
