unexpected lecture

A friend of mine just called me and told me something that happened in class today which was completely unexpected, but pleasantly so. He's taking a criminology class and the professor is ex-LEO. I've never heard of this before, but a university professor actually encouraged a class of students to buy a gun and look into getting a concealed-carry permit!

Thought I had to share...

Hmmm . . . maybe I should look into applying to New Holland after all. Sounds like a fairly reasonable state outside of the major metropolitan areas.

Well this university is smack in the heart of Philadelphia... it doesn't get any more metro.

I think the conversation started because a student was giving a presentation and brought up gun control as a solution. The prof told the class why gun control doesn't work and according to what my friend told me, he suggested to them to buy a gun and possibly carry, giving them reasons why they should.

He also told them that the shooting at Virginia Tech got out of hand because the students dispersed instead of grouping together to ambush the attacker.

I hope this prof doesn't lose his job.

i got one up.. my CJ prof was an ex state trooper and told us.... "if anyone ever comes in your house and you make the split second decision to shoot them, A. Make sure they die, B make sure they are found with a weapon. anything deadly, your finger prints are all over it anyway, you could never be blamed for anything, their life is already over, doesnt mean yours has to be"
im sure alot of people have other opinions, but i believe in this 100%. they made the choice to break into my home. if i have a gun, i intend to use it. its not for show, its not to play with. its to protect with. there are no "ill just scare him"

If by that you mean a university in the state of PA, then yes. It's not a community college. Big name, just short of ivy league... if we had a football team, everyone would know us. We have a basketball team. Their big thing is engineering, but they are involved in many areas including medicine, law, business and more.

The Castle Doctrine has changed the thinking somewhat
on this. If fact, it has changed the mindset completely.
