Non-original dilemma
I have something of a dilemma regarding firearms collecting. The dilemma stems from my number of firearms and my desire to get more while maintaining a status quo. Here's how it goes:
I have 15 firearms. Some are practical, some just basic survival firearms (novelty guns, so to speak), and some are just for fun. I have a great attachment to many of them for "sentimental" reason (my father gave me almost all of them). That said, I want to dump some to make room for more. Here's the list: Savage model 30 12 ga. pump Norinco SKS S&W Sigma 9mm SA XD 40 Walther p22 British Enfield .303 Ruger m77 25-06 Savage model 19 NRA .22 bolt action target rifle F.I.E. .22 cowboy gun .50 Muzzle Loader .50 muzzle loading pistol Ruger 10/22 Savage Fox 20 ga. dbl bbl shotty Springfield M6 Scout .22/.410 survival rifle 1898 Colt dbl. bbl. 12 ga. collectible (non-firing condition) I don't have space for any more (I don't even have space for all these, to be honest) so like I said I want to dump a few to make room (and get some $$ to spend on a new purchase). I like my collection, but I don't value it like I ought to. Because I don't value it, I feel I should sell some of the items in it and get something else that I will enjoy more. What would you guys do in my place? Keep in mind: just buying new firearms to add to the collection is not an option ($$). joe

From my little experience in the past, I'd throw the Sigma in the fireplace...unloaded, of course!

If I were you I would off-load that Sigma and maybe the SKS....

If you need a place to store some of them indefinitely to make room for more my door is always open. I try to be welcoming and help out where I can, regardless of the burden that may come with it.

I had the same dilema just last night. Bought another gun, but all my storage areas are full (2 gun cabinets, 1 closet, and under my bed). The gun is leaning against the wall in the box for now until I can come up with somewhere to keep it.

I honestly would not sell them unless they are truely crap, keep them to pass down to your kids. I will be doing the same with the guns given to me from my dad. Save your $$$ and you get another firearm or safe. It may not be as fast as you want to but in my opinion that is the only option.

Which one or three haven't you shot in the past year or so?
Which one(s) are purpose built and only used for a specific duty that you may or may not ever do again? (Meaning if you have an elephant gun but don't plan on ever hunting elephant, dump it). Otherwise, I'm with the others that said to add a new safe. That'll make sure that you have room for future acquisitions.

All my guns are purpose driven...
I have a Savage 340D chambered in .222 rem that I really don't use at all... It just takes up space... But I won't get rid of it because it was a gift and I don't like getting rid of gifts from certain people. I am not one for collecting guns... I like my guns to have a task...

+1 on bigger safe. I would be sick if I got rid of any of the rifles or pistols my dad gave to me. If the Ruger 10/22 is not one of those then you could sell that for a few dollars. They are inexpensive to pick up at most sporting goods stores.
