Kydex vs. ABS
OK.. as is often the case, I didn't know what the hell I was talking about.. LOL
I just got off the phone with Ed from Gunners Alley, I am trying to get a holster for my Taurus 85, which surprisingly, has been hard to do.. that's another story... Anyway... I have a FOBUS paddle holster, which I thought was "Kydex" which apparently is not. I love this holster!! so don't think I am bashing FOBUS at all.. It's a great OWB Holster which has served me well. The interesting thing to me, was that what I thought it was a KYDEX holster is not. It's just ordinary ABS plastic that can suffer failures because it is so brittle. Kydex, from what I am told, is molded plastic that is warmed to the point that it is malleable, but doesn't become so brittle. Does anybody know more about plastics, and the difference between KYDEX and ABS plastics? What advantage does KYDEX have over ABS? I am not a chemist.. hell, I haven't figured out how to factor polynomials.. I hate math! But if anyone can explain the difference between ABS and KYDEX, I would love to read it. Raymond
