I hope I'm not just being a dingbat here, but I have a brand new GunVault Multivault Deluxe. It was locked when I opened the box. There are two keys, but when I insert them, they only rotate maybe 1/10th turn counter clockwise. There are no batteries and the power supply is (presumably) inside, so I can't power it on to use the default codes (besides, the directions say the batteries are required, which I can't insert without opening the safe!).

Am I missing something?

Figured it out. I guess you have to smack the top of the safe real hard with the key inserted for it to open. Good thing they omitted that slightly important piece of information from the instruction manual.

I have the exact same safe. So I went to double check the key on mine. There is only one way that it will let you insert the key. You should only have to barely twist the key counterclockwise to open it up. If that doesnt work then i would take it back and exchange for another one. I love mine, it has been working well for about a year now. Goodluck `Phoenixd45

Yeah it should pop open on it's own once you turn the key. I'd return it as it sounds defective. Mine will spring open with just a slight turn of the key.

+1...same here. I have no problem at all opening mine.

I found the FAQ at http://www.gunvault.com/faqs/ and it says to hit the top to open it with the key inserted, so I assume it's normal.

It's fully programed and safely holding my Beretta 92FS and my XD9SC at the moment. Now I just need to bolt it into my closet shelving.
