Rudy Giuliani: Why I Like Guns (PV)

Quote:
RUDY: WHY I LIKE GUNS

By CARL CAMPANILE

September 26, 2007 -- Rudy Giuliani yesterday cited 9/11 to justify his conversion from ardent gun-control advocate to supporter of citizens' rights to bear arms.
"You have to look at all these issues in light of the different concerns that now exist - which is terrorism - the terrorists' war on us," the GOP presidential front-runner said in an interview with The Associated Press.
Giuliani said his conversion was triggered in part by a court ruling striking down local firearm restrictions in Washington, D.C.
"It is a very, very strong description of how important personal liberties are in this country and how we have to respect them," he said.
Giuliani said "all that seemed much more powerful to me . . . sort of maybe even did more to crystalize my thinking on the whole gun issue in light of Sept. 11."
As mayor, Giuliani was one of the nation's top gun-control advocates.
Gun-control advocates blasted Giuliani.
"Rudy used to be a straight shooter," said Paul Helmke, head of the pro-gun control Brady Campaign.
"Rudy has learned the wrong lesson. Since Sept. 11, there's even a stronger argument to be made to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of criminals," Helmke said.

I don't like how this guy is swaying...it's great he supports freedoms and what not, but at the same time, he's got the wrong idea. The likelihood of needing self-defense in a situation of terrorism is far less likely than the need of self-defense in every other day of your life. Most terror acts have been committed with truck/car bombs and plane hijackings, neither of which can be stopped by a civilian with a gun. If he truly wants to support the 2A rights, he should be supporting self-defense in all situations in life.

I really found Helmke's comments to be absolutely laughable...what a clown.

Run, Rudy...run to the right. LOL

Its laughable...isn't it? Almost as genuine as John Kerrys phony baloney goose hunting photo-op.

Be careful all of you who suport this fake conservative. Hes about as conservative as Dubya, when you get right down to it and haven't we had enough of fake conservatives?

+1 on this. Rudy won't change his strips if he is elected, which (IMO) is a long shot. The Brady Bunch is nothing but a front for George Seros and his billions to spend on an anti-gun agenda. In either party, with all the candidates talking through their hats at this point, I don't really know who to support - but I'll be sure to look at past actions and stances as a measure of their intent once in office.

With the Democrats, you don't have to look too deeply - anti-gun is the norm. With the Republicans, talk is cheap. The only thing we have going for us is the USSC and that's a gamble even now.

Dark days are ahead, my follow gun owners - dark days, indeed.........

Mitt Romney and John McCain are not much better on the gun issue.

Mitt? Well, he is from the Kenedy's state...how much respect for gun rights could the man actually have? He certainly has no record of trying to reverse or even speak out on MA's draconian gun laws. Wouldn't want to upset the Kenedy clan's budies that funnel him the reelection funds, now would he?

You would think that maybe McCain would have a different view, but his actions prove otherwise. But McCain would lose his "media darling" status he so very much enjoys if he stood up for the Bill of Rights. Theres no way he'd give that up.

We have a very, very sorry bunch to choose from in 08...theres no doubt about that.

I guess it's a good thing when the Brady Campaign is criticizing you. However, I just can't trust Rudy on this issue due to his past statements and actions.

I'm sick of phoney baloney conservatives and I don't want to abolish the federal reserve, return to the gold standard, and give Israel the middle finger either, so I guess that narrows it down to Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee and possible Fred Thompson (I need to see/hear more of him). Unless I end up liking FT, the other 3 have basically no chance. In other words, the conservative base is screwed.

Rudy seems to be a 'one trick pony', tying EVERYTHING back to 9/11. Doesn't seem to matter what IT is.

Yes, thats his ace in the hole. He did some great things after 9/11, no doubt, but he'll have to do a bit more and talk about a bit more than how awesome he was post 9/11. And a lot of you are right, he changes his story every few weeks about pretty big issues. I don't think he even knows what he's for or against at this point.

Pass.

Does he think if he says it enough he will be sure to win?

I don't buy it.
