Diverticulitis, anyone?
Any of my XD chums have any experience with the condition Diverticulitis?
Looks like I got my first case of it. Really not a pleasant experience. I always thought it as an A$$ disorder. Not so in my case. I went in to the hospital with abdominal pain and a fever. Turns out, I had a massive case of diverticulitis. Any words of wisdom or advice? Up until last week, I had never been hospitalized.

Buddy of mine has that. He couldn't eat anything with seeds in it and would put him in the hospital. They just cut out a chunk of his intestines a month ago which is supposed to help the condidtion. He's feeling much better now.

Dang, bro--I'm sorry. It doesn't sound like much fun:

It's a freaking epidemic! Well maybe not that bad, but you are the 4th person I've heard of recently to be diagnosed. My Dad- over 70, A friend of a friend in his 30's and a friend of mine who just turned 50.
It's basically small pockets that form inside your intestines which trap stuff and become infected. (If I remember correctly from school so long ago.) It happens because the food you eat isn't bulky enough to stretch and clean out your intestines properly. The medical docs have one way to treat it, holistics have another and Kellogg had is own mixture of the two.

add lots of fiber to your diet!
this will increase bulk to you stool & help decrease the intra-luminal pressure w/i the bowel to help prevent future cases diverticulosis/itis. as many have stated, avoid seeds, nuts, shells, etc as they can become caught in the out-pouchings causing irritaiton, inflammation, problems.. |

Stay away from sesame seeds most of all. Take a fiber supplement once a day and you'll be ok. I had a bout with it about 4 years ago and thought I was gonna die it hurt so bad. I actually felt like somebody had a fork in my gut and was twirling my insides around like you would a plate of spaghetti. A CT scan revealed pollups (sp) on the walls of my colon. Food particles get caught and it get infected and then you feel like you're dying. I've only had 1 mild case since the first one, and that's probably because I wasn't making sure my hamburger buns were sesame seed free. Fiber supplement is crucial though if you don't take in enough natural fiber.
Good luck.
