Stupid Car Exhaust question.
I asked this at a ford forum, but got nothing.. so Ill try my luck here..
I dont know jack **** about exhaust set ups for cars..... All I know is that I want something that is going to be LOUD.... I want a real aggressive, deep roaring sound from my car... Ill have stock headers but I plan on getting new ones.... But what do I need, as far as exhaust? Theres X Pipes, H Pipes.... Axle Backs, Cat back? Do i need to choose between x pipes or h pipes then get axle or cat backs? Or just one of the 4? And are straight pipes illegal? |

Get straight pipes coming right off the manifold, not it's not good for your car and no it's not legal but you can find someone who will do it for an extra $50 cash. Loud as all get out on a v8. In all seriousness just get a set of Flowmaster dual chambers, that's all you need.

Long tube headers, x-pipe with high flow catalytic converters, and have an exhaust shop make the rest with Flowmaster single chambers. In North Carolina your exhaust must exit at the stock location or behind the rear axle. You also will need cats to pass inspection.

I saw some vids on youtube of people that had SLP LoudMouths
http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...4&BIG=M31014-1 And they sound AWESOME!!!!!! But how does putting 2 foot pipes on the car make it sound better, I thought you had to replace the whole exhaust system... like all the pipes? Could I get a set of X Pipes and then put what I posted in that link on it, or would what I posted do the trick? |

Along with this http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...4&BIG=M31534-1 and this http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...5&BIG=M30005-1 ? Could I just get the other stuff and not the headers and it still sound sick? Headers cost out the ass and I'd have to wait a little bit for I got those and put on there. |

Those replace the stock mufflers all together. You could have a GOOD exhaust shop do the same thing for a lot less. SLP is typically high priced stuff. Not always better, just more expensive. Which Ford forum were you on anyways?

I don’t think you want straight pipes lol that’s too much and I dig a car with some rumble. Straight pipes is just obscene Straight pipes on certain car of certain mileage (emission exemption on the cat converter) may or may not be legal in your state. In Michigan we have ZERO vehicle inspection, and zero emission testing. In THEROY you could have straight pipes but you would be in violation of almost every town’s noise ordinances. H pipes x pipes etc are the basic layout of the pipes, depends on what engine you have. My straight 6 has one "header" not plural one bank of six exhaust ports, going to tone pipe. I can’t really have dual exhaust like one might have on a v6 or v8. Cat back doesn’t really help performance much at all, I would only get one if your muffler and pipes behind the cat ... hence the name, are rotted out. Think of it like water through a pipe, it is limited by diameter, connecting two hoses together with your garden house the starting point, connected to a fire hose. Your volume is limited to the home garden hose diameter, doesnt matter that you slapped on a mega fire house at the end. See ? overly simplified, there is minor very minor benefit but hardly worth fretting over. Put on a flowmaster and see if that’s loud enough for ya before you drop $700 on a set of headers and another $400 or more on muffler and pipes and cat. If you have a new car under 100k miles you need a cat, plus your newer OBD2 cars have two O2 sensors and not sure you want to get into tricking the computer on a brand new car just to make it loud. This is all I'll need to get the sound Im looking for right? http://www.borla.com/applications/lo...essive/140135/ $600-$700 seems like A LOT of money for exhaust... My dad got dual exhaust on his truck for like 300... and it sounded awesome.. But, I dont want to replace the headers right now... Whats the cheapest/best way to go here... It'd help if someone posted a link to the stuff that'd be best for me.. Thanks! |
