Rapist to get castrated in Florida

http://www.newsherald.com/headlines/...lay.php?a=3323

Damn, apparently this guy will get castrated to reduce his prison sentence. I know a lot of people here might think that this guy deserves this and more for raping someone but it doesn't sit well with me that this is even an option. This just seems like too much power for the state to have. I'd hate to see this evolve from an option to something that might be pushed on the convicts. There have been wrongful convictions before, especially with rape cases. My nuts should remain my own!

Your right, they shouldn't be castrating him, they should be executing him.

Rape is a heinous crime, it ruins lives just like murder, it prevents women from living the kind of life they should live.

It's a pity that there are false convictions, but that means we need to be more careful in our investigation/trial techniques.

Castration is a surefire way to ensure that this man will never have the chance to ruin another person's life through rape.

Actually, I believe you can still attain an erection without testicals.
They should take all his goods if they're gonna give options for reduced sentence. They should also make him wear a sign while in prison stating his crime.

You cannot legislate morality, and banning inanimate objects will never substitute for personal responsibility. Banning and limiting things merely makes them profitable to criminals via laws of supply and demand.

+1 I'm in 100% agreement with robinsre on this one.

Whats more, a man can still orgasm without testicles. The reason i believe this is offered though, is that supposedly this operation has a track record for completely reforming serial rapists/child molestors.

Still doesnt make it right in my opinion, but from what i have heard its a much better option than parole and counseling.

Thats because, while a man can still attain an erection after castration, it essentially entirely removes the sex drive.

Truly the only safe option is life imprisonment or execution. While the drive may be sexual for some of these deviants I'm sure that for others it's just some other sort of sick internal pressure.

Heh, I'm obviously from a different cut from you guys. Remember the Duke rape case where the prosecutor maliciously prosecuted the Duke students while withholding vital evidence that would have cleared them? The justice system isn't fool proof. At least with life imprison, or death row, your usually on hold for a few years. If DNA evidence comes along that clears your name or a witness recants their testimony, you can be set free.

A vengeful girlfriend or someone with an agenda can claim rape against a man. In this case, your usually guilty until proven innocent. The punishment should fit the crime. While I believe that rapist should be locked up, I think castration falls under cruel and unusual and I wholeheartedly believe that the punishment should fit the crime. A death sentence for a rape is excessive and barbaric. There seems to be a bunch of folks that think death is the answer for a whole slew of things. It just makes you sound ignorant.

An eye for an eye, isn't that what the Bible said?
