Life is not cheap to me either sir. I am a medical scientist, I have spent the past 6 years of my life, and will likely spend the rest of my life, studying it. It is a truly amazing process.

This is precisely why I believe in SOME form of permanent punishment for rapists.

When a woman is raped, her life as she knows it is over. If the woman is impregnated by her rapist this is the possibility of another life ruined.

The rate of attempted suicide for rape victims is nearly 13 times that of non-victims. Those that do survive are permanently mentally scarred. Some statistics cite that up to 40% of women who are raped contract a sexually transmitted disease from their assailants.

Now, with a national rape recidivism rate of nearly 1 in 5 and nearly 40% of all rapists being re-interned for some sort of crime or another should they really be afforded the opportunity to ruin ANOTHER life?

On the subject of false convictions...the conviction rate is not that high..and the penalties are too low.

Just citing basic statistics I found today :

46 %, under half of the people brought up on rape charges are convicted. This is nearly 10% less than any other felony. Of those only about 70% even ever see jail time. And of those who do receive time, nearly 1/4th are sentenced to jail time rather than prison time, meaning they spend less than a year behind bars.


Now, citing these same statistics even I was staggered by the fact that 22% of women admit to having been sexually assaulted.

So maybe a death sentence isn't the answer, but clearly what we're doing now doesn't work.

I have read this thread and note that many of you fail to grasp the essential nature of forcible rape. It is a crime of violence and power not a crime about sex. If a castrated man could not get an erection he is still completely capable of forcible rape. He could subdue, strip, abuse, and penetrate a woman with any substitute like a dildo or a broomstick. Penetration is not essential in most states anyway.

The violation of a woman in forcible rape is her loss of control over her own body and destiny. She is made helpless, powerless, and completely objectified. Her personhood and humanity are stripped from her utterly. She is nothing but a piece of meat for his consumption.

It isn't about a penis. It is about a mind... a very evil, cold, heartless mind willing to brutally objectify a person, force submission, and inflict horrible humiliation or worse just to get a momentary power trip.

Castration doesn't solve the problem because it is premised on a false view of the crime. It sees rape as satisfaction of sexual urges. That isn't what is happening at all. Or you wouldn't see men with ample sex available to them commiting forcible rape. Or you would see many undesirable men commiting forcible rape to get sex.

Rape is about power, control, and domination... not orgasms or erections.

i for one think rape is worse than murder since the woman (or man) has to suffer the rest of her life

castrate the bastard and toss him in the murderers block to get raped himself. i heard out here they separate the rapists from them, since even some psychos think rape is wrong
