Do You Actually Use Your Night Sites?

Hello,
I have always been a firm believer in having Night Sights on my weapons,I mainly use them in the middle of the night to find/locate/reassure myself of where my pistol is if I wake up during the night. It's a nice feeling knowing it's next to my bed.
I hav'nt night fire in the last 4 years, having said that I will make it a night out soon.
Please fell free to comment about your night sights or lack of. Thanks

well i had my family restaurant broken into (at 2am)and i arived while they were inside. a good family friend of ours lives on the property of our restaurant her safety was my only concern so i stayed back and called the police and i got some good cover and i had my gun aimed at the front door until they walked out and loaded beer into their car. i sat there with the gun pointed at them till they pulled away. if i had not had my nightsights and they when to break into her house i might not have been able to make a shot if i needed to. I WILL ALWAYS HAVE THEM ON ANY GUN I USE OR PLAN TO USE FOR SELF DEFENCE

To me night sights are really not needed... I mainly practice shooting under the impression that I am not a super hero IDPA champion...

I shoot with both eyes open and my sights just get all blurry anyway if I were to actually look at them. I've been practicing like that for so long that I could do just fine without sights completely (under 10 yards)

I have a 4'' group at 10 yards rapid fire both eyes open... I just happen to look beyond where my gun is supposed to be... It's strange I guess... I tried shooting a friends gun with night sights and I found myself staring at the sights instead of looking at where I was going to shoot.

I don't expect to ever shoot without a flashlight anyway.

Do I use them, yes! During the daytime.

For lack of a better nomenclature, I always
like to refer to them as 'low light vision'
sights. Why? For sure they are not true
'night sights'. If they were, one would not
need a flashlight or other lighting to see
what one would be shooting at. But I do
agree, at night they do glow and help you
find your machine in total darkness.

Tru-Glo TFOs are my choice from all the rest
that are installed on my toys and I have them
all.

So these night sights err.... low-light sights... actually help you find the weapon lets say when it is on the night stand? I've never thought about that aspect of them before.

They definitely make finding your gun easier in a dark room. I've also shot several low light matches and found out they are a necessity for that also. Even when you have a light on your frame rail to illuminate the target you can't see the sights unless they are tritium.

I can understand the finding the gun in the dark thing, so maybe I should get some glow. But I'm more like the lobster robot, when using certain guns. The XD, it's tactical to me! 4 inch groups at 10yards just means I'm gonna hit whatever's in the general direction I'm point at in most defensive situations.
A few of the others are way more accurate than I am and they ain't as tactical. So I'm more inclined to pay a little more attention to the sights on those guns.

Great thread, and a good subject of debate.

My across the street neighbor is a cop, & he told me when I first bought my XD45 not to buy the "low light/night sight" sights. He said as a cop, they are trained to "point & shoot instinctively" at night. This made sense because when I was in the U.S. Army, they taught us Night Firing with the M-16 by using a Daisy BB gun with the sights knocked off. We would "point & shoot" at a target 5 meters away and by the end of the day.....we were constantly hitting metal 3" round discs that were tossed in the air. At night, we shot our M-16's at silouettes that flashed lights to simulated muzzle blasts from the emeny. I was impressed at the number of hits to say the least.

According to him, you don't have the time to try to use the sights. When you raise your pistol, you should already be on target for close range shooting. This is accomplished by practice, practice, and more practice.

I can see where the attached flashlight would help........but what about the sights?

Your thoughts?
