OldMan trains with the big boys
So I get a chance to spend about 6 hours or so at Fort Bragg over the weekend. Cool stuff, learned alot about the Javelin, but more importantly how they begin training with soldiers and how to handle themselves in firefights and encounters.
Training simulator - M-4's(?) equipped with laser and circutry to provide feedback to the instructors and trainers, very cool stuff. First scenario was an all-out attack - 8 confirmed kills - open sights, I opted for single shot (versus three round bursts): ![]() Second pic - Approaching a bank with a silent alarm tripped - opted for single shot: ![]() Third pic - after one person left bank, the guy to the right (shown here in a heap of "Bad Guy Meat") moved for a pistol in his waistband - headshot baby! - after I tapped him, his buddy grabbed a pistol to take a shot at the bank clerk - headshot number two: ![]() They video the scenario and playback for training sakes, they show slow-motion, the first guy was never able to get the pistol to low-ready before he was shot. Even better the other four people on the scenario were shooting him as he was falling meanwhile back at the ranch I was already tapping "bad guy #2" in the head. The other four never got a shot off on BG #2. Good time was had - train often and be vigilant! - T Last edited by oldmantod : 09-11-2007 at 05:31 PM. |

Very cool....I've often wondered how I'd do in one of those simulators.

Tried it out here - got several BGs and a few 'hostages' - figured they shouldn't have been there in the first place! It is neat and sure makes you think about how you'd handle the real deal. Don't envy the SWAT guys - something they have to practice for day in and day out.....

That looks like alot of fun. Glad you had a good time. I'd certainly like to give one of those simulators a go.

ya, i did that with the sheriffs dept. very good training, we only did a handgun though, lot of stuff you wouldnt think of, mine was a homeless person on a bench, you walk up to wake him up and tell him to move along, he lunges at you, does he have a knife or a wallet?

Oh yeah, it's great training. I went through a course at the State Training Academy where they put you thru a bunch of different scenarios. Some of the students were coming out and talking about one specific scenario where a handcuffed juvenile suddenly kicks the mall security guard who's escorting him away, jumps in the air to move the cuffs from behind him to the front, then takes the guards gun, shoots him and a mall bystander, then runs away....Totally Jackie Chan kind of moves.
Well, I figured that when it was my turn, I'd get the drop on him since all the other students missed. When it came to the point that he kicked the guard, and jumped in the air to move his cuffs to the front....I shot the sh&T out of him!! The instructor yelled at me and said, "what the heck are you doing shooting a handcuffed juvenile!!" I replied, "becuz, he's about the kill the security guard!" That's when the instructor played back the scenario to run it's full course and all the kid did was run away down the mall!! Apparently they have about 5 different versions of the same scenario & all with different outcomes....boy, didn't I fell stupid!!
