Duramax or Cummings

I just bought a slightly used 06 dodge SLT Bighorn edition 1 ton dually with the 5.9 Cummins, I've been a Chevrolet man for years but decided to try something new. I paid allot less for the dodge than I would have for the GMC or Chevy so I was trying to get the most work truck for my money, What do you Truck guys think about my decision.

isnt it cummins. . .not. . .cummings. . . . .

sorry, im doing my best not to revert to middle school behavior. . .

that being said, i think either is a fine engine, and i have friends who have had good experiences with both. i am a bit leary of dadge transmissions though, aside from the many horro stories i have heard, my best friend literally had one go out on him on a test drive. there were only a couple hundred miles on it.

I think the cummins are great motors, I used to work at a oil change place and nobody that drove them complained. And when it comes time to change the fuel filter you will be glad you got the dodge.

Same exact experience here. Cummins motors = great; the Dodge trucks built around them = not so great.

And .. the reason for the suspension shots?

Actually, I am in the market for a truck myself. I've kinda outgrown my little sports car days and need something more manly Chevy engineering seems to have taken a big step-up lately and the Allison transmissions on the Chevy's are the toughest around. I have done a little research and have noticed that Chevy and Ford diesel re-sale value is higher than the Dodge. Granted the Dodge place wanted to knock $10k off a '07 model on the spot if I bought it today, but they were in manual tranny's. My knee can't handle the shifting, bummer. The interior of the new Chevy's are laid out real nice and offer a LOT of interior room. My wife is sold on the Chevy only because it has dual-zone temp controls For the money, I think I will be going Chevy.

The reason being that an IFS suspension has no place in an HD truck. If you look closer at the first pic you will see a snapped tie rod, second pic will show you a very bent tie rod and the tow truck is what it took to get the thing home.. This was all done trying to pull a trailer out of a ditch...
