Taurus C.I.A. .38 special
Anyone have any insight on these little babies? I'm thinking about getting one for summer carry......to hot in AL for anything big. Seems to me to be a pretty good deal with a lifetime warranty and all. Just wondering who has shot them, kept them.......etc. Thanks in advance.

![]() That's the same as my Taurus 85 .38 Spl. except it has no hammer. I guess it's no wonder that the one I found on-line cost less than the one I bought.. They saved all that money on not putting a hammer on it! LOL everything is cheaper when somebody else is buying it! Grr... I don't see any reason to not have the hammer? I suppose the main reason would be to shoot from inside your pocket.. but that seems like a good way to ruin a good jacket. I have only taken mine out twice (mine is the Taurus 85) and it shoots straight. I had a hard time unloading it, because I didn't know what I was doing, but members here got me on the right track. Very little recoil, and it was pretty quite compared to the XD. The ammo is almost as inexpensive as 9mm.. I have bought WWB 130 gr. FMJ, WWB 125 gr. JHP, and Federal 125 gr. JHP... all have fired flawlessly. The pistol is currently shelved, until my next Firearms class.. because I don't know very much about revolvers.. and need to learn a little more about it before I shoot it again. Raymond

I've shot a few different Taurus guns, mostly a model 85. I found it to be a very nice gun overall, though I'm not terribly knowledgable about revolvers. You can often find them used at a good price, which is great for cheap bastards such as myself. Great, now I'm shopping again...

Own one, carry one, shoot one. A very good (so far) carry piece. Have shot 38 special, and 38+P with no ill effects. Carries very well in jacket pocket or IWB or OWB. I, myself, don't worry about about putting hole in jacket, hi.
Have even thought about taking old jacket and practice shooting from pocket, just to see how reaction would be and to see if jacket would catch fire. I believe it's best to know what to expect rather than be surprised. If you decide on a CIA you will not be sorry. Good luck in your quest. |

My brother in law had a 6" Taurus revolver in .357 magnum. He loved it and still regrets selling it.

I bought a 5 shot 38 model 85 for my daughter. She likes it and shoots it often. Paid $250 new.

I have a 627 Tracker (.357 w/4" barrel) that I love.
The hammer spur may catch when drawing a revolver quickly from a pocket. Bobbing the hammer, or making a spurless hammer like the C.I.A. has eliminates that from happening.
