[PV] Republican Canidates..... First time voter here..
I'm embarrassed to say that im 26 and have never voted in my life. This year im trying to get involved in the whole election being the first time I'm going to vote. I've been trying to understand all the topics, reading about which candidate is pushing for what. I want to vote for a candidate of which seems the most rational in my eyes. The problem is, it seems hard to form an opinion about a particular candidate because there are so many different topics!! How do you find the one that you like without actually comparing all of them side by side on a "pros & cons" piece of paper tallying up which canidate is more for what you want? I watch one canidate in a speach and they sound great, I watch another and they sound great as well, is it im being influenced by the look of confidence they are putting off? The massive clapping after they speak?...
Its frustrating, I mean I know for sure I am for the republican side but isn't there like 8 republican candidates running? Can you guys give me some tips? I am so green in this area its not even funny. I'm not even sure how the whole election process works. Doesn't it come down to two candidates at the end?... Please excuse my ignorance but at least I'm making an effort right? For what its worth, from what I've gathered from little debates and campaigns I've watched " I think" I like Rudy,Paul and McCain. I have looked and tried to compare the candidates at www.ontheissues.org but it still seems a little confusing to me. What do you guys think, is this normal? Am I sorta on the right path here?

I think Ron Paul is the only candidate out there right now that still truly believes in the Constitution. I think you'll find that although Guliani is technically a Republican, he's very anti-gun, research it a little more, you'll find it. His reign as mayor of New York is proof of that. His 9/11 accolades speak for themselves but now he's practically basing his whole campaign on that. He's no longer married, his kids won't speak to him, etc. etc. so I think he's got a few issues that America needs to know about his family unit as well. McCain was a great war veteran but as unfortunate as it may sound, I think being a POW has really messed with his mind. Of course thats to be expected, I mean who wouldn't come out of a situation like that a little scathed and emotionally scarred? Not many. However I think with his temper and some of his background, he's not someone I would vote into the White house. I myself am voting for Ron Paul, he's the only one I can see taking this country where it needs to go and he also wants to stop policing the world which I also believe is a necessity right now.
But thats enough about me, I'm sure others will chime in with their candidates and why they wish to vote for them. I was giving a very broad spectrum here and didn't really get detailed with any of this at all, but I'm at work so its slightly difficult. One website you might wish to check out to become more informed on things going on right now would be www.freedomtofascism.com There's a lot going on right now that over 90+% of the American public hasn't the slightest idea about. You don't even have to purchase the DVD if you don't want to, you can watch it all on google video, free of charge. |

It can be difficult to compare all of the candidates on all of the issues. All I can tell you is my opinion/what I do. I think you have to start by defining what's really important to you and realize that it might change a little bit over time. For me, the candidates stance on security issues and financial issues are the critical items for me. Therefore I look at the following issues, approximately in this order of importance:
1. Position on RKBA. 2. Foreign-policy stance. Will the candidate defend America's interests? Will he actively prosecute the war against the terrorists and nuclear proliferators? Is the candidate likely to cede America's sovereignty to international organizations. 3. Taxes. My wife and I bust our butts to make a financially secure life for our family and provide the best opportunities for our children. Every penny that the gov takes from us reduces our ability to do so. 4. Likelihood of appointing judges that support a constructionist view of the Constitution. Finally, I vote for the person who best addresses my concerns (1 to 4 above). To me that means that if a candidate looks great on paper, but has very little chance of winning, he will not be able to address my concerns. Consequently, many times that means that the choice is between the lesser of two evils. C'est la vie. |

I'd recomend voting for the best candidate for your beliefs, and not voting for the lesser of two evils. I have made that mistake before when i voted for King George the first and i regret it greatly. If we keep voting for jackasses who the elite present to us, rather than the candidates who really will represent us, we are gonna continue to get horrible presidents.
Each party will have a primary, where you can only vote in the party you are registered in. After that, the parties will choose their candidate (hopefully the one who won the primary, but i don't think that is required). Then in the main election you can vote for whomever you want, regardless of their political party. Go to your town hall and register to vote, and choose your party. If you don't like the person the party nominated, you can write in whomever you want. Last edited by LKB3rd; 09-06-2007 at 01:49 PM. |

My two favorites are Mike Huckabee and Duncan Hunter. They're both strong on illegal immigration, national security and the WOT, believe in my right to own whatever evil-looking gun I can afford, and fiscal responsibility in government. The problem is they don't have the name-recognition or financial resources to be considered "electable". It's sad, really; I'm beginning to like the idea of a parliamentary-style government more and more. Multiple parties (not just two) at the table, and if the current prime minister starts heading down the road to Suckville, throw him out with a no-confidence vote and try somebody else.
As far as Giuliani, McCain, and Paul are concerned, none of them are my ideal picks. I'm not going to be able to make a choice until the primaries.

I also like Huckabee. I still like McCain too. But I'm still rooting for Fred.

Educate yourself as much as you can on the candidates.
Absorb as much information as possible on the people you feel are aligned with your beliefs. Listen to them speak so you can weed out those who seem phony and those who speak to you from their heart. Check their records and find out if the waffle on things. Too many people these days will simply vote for the popular choice without knowing a thing about their stance. These same people simply put more effort into choosing whats for dinner tonight than who will run our nation. It's pathetic really..

First time voter? Dude, I'm younger than you are and have voted more than you have!
Read this: http://www.americanfreemen.org/forli...ngthepartyline Though I disavow any other articles you find on that web site since I've recently had a "falling away" from the American Freemen.
