I was starting to think the same thing. I wonder if ANY of that is true...they may not even have a partial photo of him and witnesses like he said...who knows. Could be that the prof was just careless and attempting an uber-smokeblow in order to cover his rear. Then again, maybe not.

Actually there apparently IS such a thing as a security transponder that can go in a laptop and if the guy did indeed have such important data on that laptop it's possible he might have been using one:
