One for the good guys!
Police: Attempted robbery suspect shot by victim By: North County Times ESCONDIDO ---- A victim of an attempted robbery reportedly shot a man who demanded money from him at gunpoint early Wednesday morning, police said. The victim, a retired police officer, told authorities he was he was walking in the area of Country Club Lane and Capistrano Glen when he was confronted by the suspect, who pointed a handgun at him and demanded money, Escondido police Lt. Bob Benton said. The victim, who carried a handgun, instead shot the suspect, who ran off toward El Norte Parkway, Benton said. The victim ran to a nearby residential complex and asked a resident to call police, the lieutenant said. "According to investigators, he ran to the first residence that had a light on," and police were called immediately, he said At 1:50 a.m., police were called by an employee to the parking lot of the Circle K convenience store in the 1000 block of West El Norte Parkway, where they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the shoulder, Benton said. The gunshot victim, who matched the description of the robbery suspect, was taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of what is considered non-life threatening injuries, Benton said. The robbery victim was not injured. Retired officers are permitted by law to carry concealed weapons and the attempted robbery victim carried his gun legally, Benton said. Neither man was identified by police as of about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, and neither was charged with any crime at that time, Benton said. Witnesses are asked to call the Escondido Police Investigations Bureau at (760) 839-4717.
