Terrific story.

I took the NRA Instructor training specfically to help people learn to shoot and everyone says I'm a good instructor -- and I do it just exactly like Grandpa and you did it.

Now, if we can all take ONE non-shooter shooting and give them a good experience.... dudes, the anti-gunners wouldn't stand a chance with their deception.

Personally, I'm taking a first-time shooter to the range next week and so far he can't stop talking about it and we haven't even GONE yet. It's more fun than shooting sometimes, to show someone how to do it.

I will say that most of my students have NOT gone on to buy their own gun, only about 1/3rd. Most just wanted to try it and learn something, but ALL of them have said they are happy to know how to clear a gun and feel a lot less scared of them.

We win.

That was a great story, Pugs. I had a VERY limited intro to guns when I was young and am self taught too. I suppose, like you, I am just above average for a shooter.

It takes a real man to let go of his own time to help others,......young or old. At some point I would like to shake your hand and go put some holes in some paper with you.

Amen, Brother!

Truly, introducing newbies to the sport is the best route to go to stamp out the anti-gun sentiment.

My wife is a shooting convert and now I'm looking for a pistol for her. We're taking her best friend shooting for the first time today, so hopefully we'll gain another convert there.

We're off to the range, now!

Oh, and by the way, everytime I see your avatar it just creeps me the hell out! It's more than a bit disturbing!

This really is what it's all about. Don't wanna steal your thunder, Pugs, or cause thread drift/hijack, but this is EXACTLY what we all need to do. BTW, this is me and my boys at a buddy's pasture that is now filled with corn stalks.

Hey,

The thread is about sharing shooting with others. The pic of you and your boys is right on topic as far as I'm concerned. And you're right, this is EXACTLY what we all need to do. Bring more people into the sport safely and happily.

My wife'll be home in minutes and then we're off to the range! My first time with an instructor and I'm stoked!

I'm glad you had someone willing to volunteer their time with you, just like you did with that boy and his grandfather.

Great read Pugs.
I've had similar good experiences at the range both people helping me and me trying to help others.
I've had a rough day with my 2 going on 3 year old and can't even begin to think when I might teach my boy to shoot... but your account about being patient and calm certainly will be a good reminder for me to teach my boy in other ways in life.
Cheers and keep us posted on the range outing.

People like you, Pugs, make the range a great learning tool and an enjoyable experience.

I wish people did stuff like this at the range I go to, but hopefully I'll be able to get shooting more in the fall and make it a point to start the wagon rolling.
