More poor mis-understood pit bulls. Must be the owner

Pit Bulls Break Into Washington Woman's Home and Maul Her

Wednesday, August 22, 2007
GIG HARBOR, Wash. — Two pit bull terriers broke into a house through a pet door Tuesday and attacked a woman in her bed, mauling her badly, a Pierce County sheriff's spokesman said.
The woman was able to grab a gun and try to shoot the dogs, then break away from the attack and lock herself in her car, where she called 911, sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.
The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a hospital in Tacoma, where she was listed in serious condition.
Officers planned to talk to the dogs' owner.
The pit bulls also killed a neighbor's Jack Russell terrier, which entered the house during the attack, Troyer said.
"The thought is that the Jack Russell heard noise in the neighbor's house, came in and was attacked by the dogs," Troyer said.
Firefighters responded first, locking the dogs in the house, treating the woman and calling for an ambulance.
Officers "had to pepper spray and fight the dogs until they were detained. We almost had to shoot them on site," Troyer said.
The dogs were taken to a Humane Society and will probably be destroyed, he said.

It was not immediately known why the dogs entered the house, whether the woman had dogs of her own or what set off the attack.

Good dogs and bad (poorly trained) dogs in every breed...pits are very powerful...

poorly trained +very powerful=bad news.

I heard a telephone interview with owner of the dogs and he said the patented phrase that every Pit Bull owner says after their dog kills or maul someone "they were such good dogs, and never showed any aggression until now...."

What kind of response were you looking for by starting this thread?

I'm honestly curious...

If she had been awake when the dog's entered the house, we'd be reading a much different story. She was asleep and gained access to her gun, it was probably on the nightstand, and even if she got chewed up a little it saved her life by scaring the dogs long enough to get away.

I'm sorry, blame the dog's owner all you want, but when a dog enters a home and attacks a sleeping person, something is wrong with the dog.

The dogs were clearly unbalanced and definitely in the red zone. I blame the owners just like I would blame the owner of a gun for murdering someone not the gun itself. "they were such good dogs" doesn't mean crap. So many people let their dogs assume dominant roles in the home and because the dog comes when called and licks their faces it is assumed "they are good dogs".

Oh ya tons of labs breaking down doors dragging people out of bed. I guess every owner of every other breed just trains their dogs better than Pit Bull owners...because if you didn't train a lab or chow properly its probably certain death for anyone around the dogs.

Just love to hear people blaming everything but the dog every time they do any kind of damage. I saw pictures of the owner with his dogs at the beach several times playing with other dogs and people and then snap there goes that bad training out of nowhere once again.

Something wrong with the dog(s) itself? Sure! Definitely looks that way........entire breed? Nope!

Just something to think about: Pit Bulls are not naturally (genetically) aggressive towards people. Aggressive dogs wouldn't have worked well in the pit.

If it is not natural for this dog to behave this way then why does it happen?
