AR-15 lovers --- say Hello to my little friend!!

Well... I finally got my paperwork back from the BATFE with approval to build my short barreled AR-15. Got the remaining parts I needed to complete the build, finished up the project and took the rifle out to the range for some shooting. It's short (has a 10-1/4" heavy barrel and is just under 26" in total length with the stock "collapsed"), it works great, it's LOUD and it's a heck of a lot of fun to shoot!! I think this rifle will be great for carry in my truck.

My picture taking skills aren't the best, but I just couldn't resist the urge to snap a few shots ---

Looks like a little runt compared to a "regular" 20" barreled AR with fixed A2 butt stock!!

---- For those who may be wondering - YES, this gun is legal! -----

Thats awesome man! I want to buy a new M4A3 16inch this year and buy a stripped lower to build into a SBR. I was thinking of a 11.5 inch barrel cuz I heard the ballistcs are better.

I kind of want one for the same thing a trunk gun.

what were the steps to building this rifle?

taken from AR15.com.

11.5 inch barrel- this is the minimum length necessary to achieve fragmentation with 5.56 ammo within the specified range. It is also longest barrel I can consider packing into a tight space like a briefcase or backpack. In order to compactly stow this weapon, the upper and lower receiver halves must be separated, and the upper with an 11.5 barrel measures around 20 inches total. Any longer than that and you loose concealability, any shorter and you loose effectiveness. Maybe you could get away with a 10-inch barrel. But you loose critical velocity, and using specialty ammo violates rule number 3 above. I don’t think you gain enough in compactness with a 10 to offset the velocity loss. A 7 or 9 inch barrel never gets the velocity up high enough to fragment the round, so all you are doing is punching little 22 caliber holes in your target. You’d be better off with a 9mm handgun using FMJ

I got the parts from several different places. Bought the Bushmaster lower and the lower receiver parts from a local dealer several years ago. Got the buttstock assembly from Brownells and the rest of the stuff at gun shows. The biggest pain was waiting for the approval to build it --- took about 4-1/2 months.

Missouri is a weird state --- I can build/buy short barreled rifles and shotguns and can get registered full auto stuff, but I can NOT get a suppressor! Go figure.

So can you legally possess the parts before the approval just cant put it on? Or do you have to wait to order until you have your approval?
