Pat on the back gift...

Well, I just got my first out-of-college engineering job this morning and I'm pretty excited. Now my little ones have medical, dental and vision insurance. I have life insurance and a 401K, not to mention that this is the most I have ever made (previous holder of that title was the Marine Corps at a whopping 20k a year). Anyway, this is very big for my family.

I think a new knife is in order, maybe something I would not normally buy myself. I would welcome any recommendations you guys might have. So far I am considering this Kershaw ZT, except in serrated:

Any other cool ideas guys?

Congratulations on the new job and career path.
I'm not really into knives, but I'm sure others will make a few recommendations.

A friend of mine has a few of these knives and he likes to give them as gifts only problem is the wait period for one and the price. They are excellent knives though.

There is a gentleman who goes by the name of Mad Dog who is a knife maker. Many of his knives are used by the military and le. You can find him on tacticalforums.com.

Go to the Knife Forum, then Mad Dog. There may be a wait for his knives tho and I hear they are a bit $$$, but excellent. I don't have any experience with them, but have been a member there for some years and he has an excellent rep from what I've read.

Some of the threads there will show some of his knives. Just a fyi.

Do you want a tactical styled knife? I am pretty fond of my HK21. Made in Germany by Boker for HK, they're very high quality and can be had on ebay (if you look around) for about 50 bucks. ATS34 German steel and built to HK's quality standards....I can't tear it up and I am trying! These usually sell for around 140 dollars but I bought mine off ebay for 45 dollars. A steal for a German made knife. Sharp and very tough.

For a very nice pocket knife, handmade and of the highest quality, I'd reccommend Moore Maker in Matador, Texas. http://www.mooremaker.com/

They're more "cowboy' styled knives, but they're handbuilt and come from a company that makes ranching tools and the knives just oooze old school quality. Bone handles, brass rivets and high carbon steel blades that patina over time and hold an edge - these are how knives used to be made. Pocket knives can be had for around 100 dollars and are worth every penny. I've had one for 10 years and Dad has one from about 30 years ago and we cannot tear up these knives.

Personally, I love Kershaws & Benchmades. If it were me, I stick to the low end for now. You've got all your life to collect customs. Treat yourself and your family a little bit and get outta debt asap if'n your in it.

Congrats & Semper Fi!

No, they strung me along at the beginning of the summer and never could seem to get an offer on the table... I'm at Bechtel now.
