Documentations for a FTF sale?
Folks, wondering what's exactly needed for an FTF sale.
I suppose a copy of the driver's license and a written receipt for the weapon with serial number, date of sale, price of sale, and a photo of the weapon and signatures might be a start. And what happens if you gift it to your family members or a friend? Do you need to do any paperwork? Thanks for all your help in advance. Cheers,

Well, in Indiana, uless your an FFL, nothing is required as long as the buyer is of legal age and you both live in the same state. I always write up a receipt with all the buyers info and a photocopy of there drivers license just in case.

Not sure of how your state laws work but I used this recently in a FTF trade.

In TX, unfortunately nothing is required. I always check ID to make sure they are a Texas resident (make sure it's not a fake at the same time). However, if someone didnt' want to give you their ID or a copy of it, I probably wouldn't feel comfortable selling to them anyways.

For my FTF purchase in TX...
I just got a handwritten bill of sale showing the date, serial number and the the sellers name and address. I just wanted proof it wasn't stolen (at least by me).

I do nothing, I feel we should be able to buy and sell guns without paperwork.

I would write up a bill of sale and take down their driver's license number and maybe even their soc. number.
I have a friend that sold an AR once. Year or two later he had FBI at his door wondering why his AR was used in a high profile shooting. He gave them all of the buyer's info and soc number to prove that he had in fact sold it. Feds haven't been back since. True Story.

Thanks for all the advice. Same line of thought here. It's to protect me from future problems if they exist.
Again, the wealth of knowledge and experience in this site it truely astonishing. Cheers,
