FFL transfer dealers
Just curious if anybody else encountered this.
I was looking for a transfer dealer for one of my new purchases not covered by my C&R, the place I bought it from asks for his shipping address to ship the gun out. He writes me back saying he won't give his address to strangers, and wants to contact the seller himself. Didn't bother me much at first until I realized I was going to be paying almost a grand for a rifle and had no idea where it was going to be shipped I don't think I was over reacting because this has never come up before, is this common? I can see why he wouldnt want to give out his address if he was a kitchen table FFL, they usually have alot of money invested in weapons sitting around making them a target for robbery.

I had considered that, but he was listed as a business that had been in business over 25 years, not a private individual, thats why I chose him in the first place, besides where am I going to pick up my gun? Kind of nervous about receiving a rifle in some parking lot! I guess it's all probably just a simple misunderstanding but I wasn't comfortable with it so I moved on.

If you felt uneasy with it, I'd say it was a wise decision to move on. Do you have any small gun shops around your town? Most all have FFLs and are willing to do transfers. I found my first FFL dealer by accidentally driving by it one day.

Yeah, I had a regular guy that has done them for me for years, but he retired and moved to Arizona last year so i was kind of looking for a new "regular guy". My local shop wants $50 to do it when the going rate elsewhere seems to be $15-$20 thats why I'm shopping around.

I think gunbroker.com has a list you can look up local people to do transfers.

Yea, I wouldn't pay $50. I've done it three times now, $25 each time.

Thanks for the help guys. The list from Gunbroker put me in touch with a shop in MichiganCity that'll do it for $25. I sent an E-mail to the other guy asking how he planned to deliver my gun, just out of curiosity. I'll see if he replies.
