I've had mine for several years. As I recall, it took ~60 days from the time I sent it in. It will come.

BTW-you'll be surprised at how many people carry in the little town of B-burg. I live there.

1. Take a revolver to the class. As you will
need to disassemble the firearm in order to
show some proficiency in the mechanics of
the firearm and also safety practice. I only
mention a revolver because it is easy to open
up the cylinder and clean the machine vs.
a semi-automatic.

2. After eight hours of setting and watching
a video driven class, your bottom side will get tired
and you will get bored. Perhaps the class will be
broken up into two four hour sessions, that call
is made by the instructor. After classroom
instruction, you make it to the range to show
proficiency in handling the firearm and also
targeting rounds into a target. Ten rounds in an
area (I forget how large or how small) at 21 feet
away from the target.

3. Instructor fees: can run up to $125.00.

4. You should receive your certificate of
proficiency after taking the CCDW class in about
two weeks from Richmond, Ky.

5. After receiving the certificate, take it along
with your checkbook or cash, small photos (like
the ones for a passport), the completed paperwork
for your CCDW to your local county sheriff's office.
I would suggest that you call and see when the best
time would be to come in to take care of the CCDW
business. Reason: most of the sheriff's offices have
only one designated deputy to handle all the paper-
work and you sure as blazes want them to be there
when you go to the courthouse.

6. Sit back and wait until you receive a notice from
the KSP (Kentucky State Police) notifying you to go
by your local sheriff's office to pick up your 'credit
card'. That is a name tagged to the CCDW license
by most of the sheriff's offices. Again, I suggest that
you call before you go to make sure that the same
deputy is on the job at the office. All this would save
two or more trips.

7. Maybe renewed every five years, you will be
notified by KSP when to do so.

8. Make damn sure that you immediately notify the
sheriff's office if you change location or addresses.

9. Make WalMart your first stop when you CCDW
just to get used to the feel of 'packing heat'. Good
luck and think about the awesome responsibility that
you have taken on. Check out the KC3 and KFFI
web sites. I was instrumental and involved in chartering
both of those organizations.

i'll be taking the xd45 that i plan on using as my daily carry. with 15 years in teh amry i don't think doing D&A on an auto will be an issue. i don't mean to sound like a know it all, but i do possess a prety good knowledge of firearms.

how much more is this going to cost me?? since i'm in mead county i'm sure that there is not only one deputy, but he will work very odd hours and shifts.

Guess I had a little dyslexia going on when I read the title to this thread... thought it said, "Who carries KY?"

Listen to Ed,Ive had my CCW for 10 years now.I took a beretta 9mm for my test LOL at the time I had never took it apart,I had only had it about a month before the class. You are required to disassemble the weapon, clean it and put it back together.Take a revolver, makes life easier. If you make it through the hours of video (YAWN) you will have no problems. You shoot your firearm at 7 yards,if you hit anywhere in the FULLSIZE human target 11 out of 20 times I think (its been awhile I may be wrong)you pass that part. The written test is soooooo easy its pothetic.Dont worry, you'll do fine.

CCDW license fee is $60.00.

CCDW license can take up to two months
to get.

I cannot answer your question concerning
the renewal of your license since you are
GI issue. Perhaps an informed deputy at the
sheriff's office can answer that one.

75 for the class

3 or 4 weeks for the license from the end of the class. My instructor sent the tests in immediately, and the checks between the county and state went pretty quickly.

Class was 8 hours. Lots of video, applicable KY law was very interesting, but a little dry.

I shot my XD 40, no prob.

Had to pay $65 for the license when I picked it up from the county courthouse: $5 for them to aim a polaroid at me and take a picture that makes me look like a criminal, since I didn't bring my own pic.

They give you a neat little reference on the law to take with you.

The point they made on defensive shootings was that if you shoot someone you WILL be arrested and charged. Something to keep in mind. It's not like you can tell the responding officers, "He was going to shoot me first" and they would say, "OK. Good job." Although there are many reasons why a shooting is justified, you will have to prove it in court.

It is a serious responsibility to carry. Keep that in mind.
