ok some guy said I could build a Ar15 for $537....

these are the links he sent me and I have some questions.

1, are the parts any good.

2, should I do it?

3, is this everything I need to build a GOOD one?

Not sure of the quality of the lower, However for your first rifle, That is a god price. HELL I might order one just for the hell of it do my first ground up build. The model 1 kits are something to be desired if you read some of the stuff on AR15.com But I hear they are doing better.

ALL in all for the price, as a plinker I don't think you can go wrong at that price. If ya don't like it you can always sale it and probably make a dollar or 2 off of it...

F it dude go for it, I think I might order it and build one just as a knock around gun. Throw it in the truck, plink with it who knows. Abuse the hell out of since it was cheap...

Wow, that would be a great price for an introductory AR. I want one, but they are so expensive. This is actually in my price range.

My first kit was from Model 1 and it still 3 yrs latter is still good and working just fine. I have built about 6 others for people who were on a budget and they all work. One one of the kits the castle nut did need to be filed for the charging handle not to scrape. If budget is the concern you will be allright just make sure whoever puts it together knows what they are doing. And dont run it dry the first time at the range to break it in.

EA lowers are fine. Don't forget the S&H of $14 + your FFL transfer fee typically $25 around here. You might want to upgrade some of the kit parts from the standard $460 kit. As is will work fine but in short order you will want to make changes. At a minimum I would upgrade to a A3 config (this would be costly to do after the fact) with a flip up rear sight or a carry handle with aperture sight (this will make it easier when you want to put glass or a holosight on it), and a M4 6 position buttstock. These 2 will add $100 to the build. And don't forget a few mags $12-15 ea. Building the lower should take about a 1/2 hour and a set of punches and a small hammer.
All said and done you now have $750 into the build. Not bad at all but not $537 either. Not trying to burst any bubbles but just being a realist. I contracted the evil black rifle disease a while ago it's hard scratch that expensive to treat.
Here is a few of mine:
This one is chambered for 9mm

Ok, I have a few request's...

If someone could PM me and tell me about how I need to get this lower shipped to a gunstore..

and 2,

I know 100% jack **** about these rifles so if someone could also tell me every part I'd need to get it to look EXACTLY or as close to XDman1000's rifle.

Here's a pic, and will the colors match, on the upper and lower since they are coming from 2 different places?

for my first, I just want a very clean, basic AR. THANKS

Contact your FFL 1st and find out if they will accept a transfer and what there fee's are. More than $20 -25 find another FFL. Get the shop name & address. When you order the lower they will give you their info. Call your FFL back with the info and have him FAX or mail a copy of their FFL to the seller. When the seller gets the FFL they will ship the lower to your FFL. When your FFL receives it thay will contact you. At that time you go to your FFL and do the 4473 and pay the transfer fee. You can then take your lower home assuming no waiting period in your state.
Colors, that a big crapshoot.
The $460 kit will get you what your looking for.

I have been reading all of the threads beitzel has written on the AR recently with some interest. He and others are concerned about cost, where to get parts and whether everything will match or not.

Laugh if you will, but that is one advantage of living in Kalifornia: We don't have to worry about making all of those difficult decisions. Our state legislators have done that for us; we cannot have any of those nasty black rifles.

I am of course, being sarcastic. I'm sure I speak for most, if not all of the Ca. members on this site, that we would like to have to make the same decisions you guys do. I guess we can only read the posts, look at the great pics and get a little vicarious pleasure from them.

I sure wish I was more interested in those rifles early in my le career when the le discount was available and they were legal.

Enjoy your fun and keeping showing the pics....please.
