What type of Firearms training have you had?

How many hours and what types of training have you had.

How much do you train per year?

Only what the Marine Corps has given me as far as "offical" training.

I try to train myself and the wifey to the best of my ability at home in the backyard and inside the house. I simply can't afford what most of the high speed low drag places charge for their training.

Started in the Air Force, (40 years or so ago), various police departments, training and qualification every 6 months, shoot about twice a month at the local police range.

Not enough; I'd like to take some defensive pistol and force-on-force stuff in the near future. Just punching holes in paper doesn't prepare you for the stresses involved in a real SHTF confrontation event.

Cool

The only way to truly prepare for when "tshtf" these days is to spend some time in Iraq or Afganistan. Everything else is nice, will probably help, you are probably better off with it than without it, and will definitely lighten your load (by $800.00-$2,000.00 each trip) but it ain't in the same league as having an entire country you've been assigned to protect want to kill you at the behest of some savages who call themselves religious leaders.

So, if you really want to be prepared for when tshtf, then sign up now for a two year (or longer, if that's your bag) enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. Two years may seem like a long time, but when tshtf, it'll seem like a weekend. It really is the only true way to test your mettle these days. What are you waiting for?

I have nothing but respect for service folks (including my brother--active duty Army in Iraq as we speak), but the time when that choice of life would have worked for me and my family is past.
