How much do you train per year?

My dad taught me how to shoot over 30 years ago. Been shooting and carrying handguns for the last 18 years.

I have about 100 hours of formal, professional, defensive handgun training. Only 10 hours of formal, professional, defensive rifle training. Just finished building the rifle a couple of months ago, more rifle training coming very soon.

I love doing training classes and have a couple of very good places close by. Most are $300 or so for a weekend, which I think is reasonable for good training from a known school.

I do 3-5 training classes a year. I shoot 2-3 IDPA matches a month for fun and practice, not for training.

What kind of problems did you have with them? I've seen their TV show and most of their students can't shoot worth a damn (telling of the instruction maybe?) but I haven't met anyone with actuall experience with them.

27yrs of le with LASD involving training in revolvers, semi-auto pistols, shotguns, Hogan's Alley, Laser Village (tho they don't use lasers anymore) and AR15.

Less Lethal weapons: Sting grenades, Arwen, and another similar weapon whose name I embarrasingly can't recall (starts with a S I know and shoots less powerfull rubber bullets). Also bean bag shotgun and taser (I know, it's not a tru firearm in that sense, but it is fun to watch someone who gets shot with it).

Since retiring, I try to shoot as often as I can. As a matter of fact, I'll will be doing so tomorrow with my son, nephew and his friend at an outdoor range. On the 11th, I'll be doing the same thing with Andyg, another member here. First time meet for both of us.

So, if you really want to be prepared for when tshtf, then sign up now for a two year (or longer, if that's your bag) enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. Two years may seem like a long time, but when tshtf, it'll seem like a weekend. It really is the only true way to test your mettle these days. What are you waiting for?

Wouldn't being in a war zone put you directly in the splatter of TSHTF?... just a thought...

I'm also curious. I've thought about looking into Front Sight but I've always been kinda skeptical of the place. I signed up for the free e-mail "gun training" reports. I've since flagged it as spam because there were so damn many of them and they weren't too useful!

...and as far as training goes, my Dad first showed me the basics years ago, which was what he was taught in the Army. I practice as much as I can, but I'd like some formal training. Hopefully this fall!

Exactly, practice like you play. What better preparation for the SHTF than being where the S is Hing TF. If you want to be prepared for something, probably the best way is to actually survive it. Of course you run the risk of not surviving it, but hey, no guts, no glory.

Not a recruiter, and was never in USMC, did my time in USN. Less likely to get dead there. But that was long ago...

Some details on what's wrong with Front Site. I know a couple of guys who went and loved it, for me the $2,000.00 seems kind of steep when there are others that start at $800.00 (which is kind of steep too). Not doubting you, just wanting details.
