Phony Heros...

I read an article in the Army Times that a soldier was telling his new wife that he was a three time war veteran and was nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor. He has three silver stars, two bronze stars, and the Medal of Honor. Only problem is, he has NEVER served overseas! It mentions that there are a lot of men now claiming to be war heros because of the current conflicts. I'll tell you all that since I have been sitting in the heat of Baghdad for many months, if I come across a guy that is lying about his medals and time in combat, I'm liable to rip his head off. I hate guys lying about their service. it just cheapens the the feelings the real heros have when they make it home to their families.

Well, I just had to vent folks. Thanks for listening.......

I agree whole-heartedly! I had a a guy tell me the other day that he was an Army Ranger a few years back. He asked if I wanted to buy some military surplus. He took me into a small shed and showed me a box of misc goodies. I asked him about his MOS. After pretending that he hadn't heard what I said a few times, he says, "I was a Gunny" "Really?" "I was un-aware that the Army had Gunnies!" Turns out, he was living in this shed in his father-in-laws backyard. He was all strung out on meth and God knows what else. I proceeded to tell him that he was a disgrace to anyone that wore the uniform just for pretending to be one. He then asked me to give him money! Instead, I gave him a really big piece of my mind, and an old travelers bible that I had in my glovebox. Hopefully, he will put it to use....for something other than rolling papers!

Freakin' posers. That would be like me implying that I got a Purple Heart by playing up my medical discharge because it sounds less stupid than getting tendonitis during basic training and not being able to do push-ups anymore.

Good job. I still remember giving a hotel hooker a bible. She was shacking up at the hotel and when her support checked out she went looking for another crutch. I have no idea what happened to her after our talk. She headed across the street and I went to work.

As for the Phony Heros,
It pi$$es me off to hear that some low life, never served, wanna be, would attempt this. But it really tops the cake when it is a soldier telling his wife such a story. Damn!

Yup, there will always be those that want to be but dont have the balls to really go. Living a life of lies will only beat you down in the long run and ruin any respect that anyone may have for you.

I have a saying that I made up long ago

"trying to be like someone else, is a waste of who you are"

My own personal rule of thumb: if somebody volunteers the fact that they were special forces or mentions something along the line of "In my SEAL team, we used this...." in the course of normal casual conversation, they probably were never in one of those units. I've known several Rangers and an old grizzly Recon Marine, and they didn't feel the need to talk about it (until I pressed them for stories ).
