Carrying in Detroit.
I am traveling from Ohio to Detroit for two days in August to see a concert at Ford Field. I have a Ohio CCW, and I have carried many times in other parts of Michigan, exercising Ohio's reciprocity agreement with Michigan. However, I know big cities can be weird.
Anyone with any insight on carrying in Downtown Detroit? Knowing the $hitheads that live in that town, and the violence rates, I want to make sure that I am packing heavy. Time to bust out the 10mm for that jaunt. |

Tons of car thefts, i would drive in a buddys car who is local and leave your car in the burbs if at all possible, i never drive even down town and i drive a '95 cherokee. You would have to pay me like $200 to drive a new 06 or 07 down there with nice wheels or nice stero. Fuuuugetaboutit. Make you family or friends drive. |

I have no one else up there to drive for me. I just may leave the gun at home, altogether. I think we may stay in Windsor, Ontario right across the river, and take the tunnel bus to Ford Field. Windsor is much safer.

I hesitate to call Law Enforcment to ask questions like this. No two people give the same awnser and they never seem to really know the laws. I had 2 diffrent local LEO agencies here in NC tell me that Open Carry in this state was "HIGHLY" illegal. Which was BS, it's perfectly legal in the WHOLE state.
As the old saying goes "If you want something done right........you've got to do it yourself." I do all of my own research now instead of calling the "law".

quick google link search got me this. http://www.ccrkba.org/reciprocity.html The information contained herein is nothing more than a guide. Before you choose to carry a concealed firearm outside your state of residence, check with the appropriate authorities (usually the State Police) to determine the current status of reciprocity. Such information is also frequently contained on a state’s web site (usually under Attorney General, Secretary of State, or State Police Agency). Carry License Reciprocity State By State Based on information current as of August 15, 2006 This list represents a "best faith" effort through telephonic contact with the respective states' Attorneys General offices, Departments of Public Safety or State Police agencies. It should be used as a planning document only. The issue of concealed carry license reciprocity is a dynamic one and subject to frequent change. Several states are involved in ongoing correspondence with other states or review of other states' concealed carry laws prior to making a determination. The best advice is to "Call before you carry!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- call the michigan state police they are usually very helpfull guys a worlds difference from detroits cops. Also ask about taking the gun to Canada. I never go to canada anymore since i am legal to drink in US 7 years now. Nothing there for me in windsor, they have much stricter gun laws so not sure on the details of carrying in canada Last edited by billbrasky; 07-24-2007 at 07:11 PM. |

No, I AM DEFINITELY NOT CARRYING TO CANADA. It would be instant jail time.
I will leave it at home if I stay there instead. |
