I think better training both in firearms and in legal will help us gun owners in the long run.

YMMV, IJMHO and as always, cheers,

I'm not quite following what you're saying here. Flordia allows your Military ID to cover the "training cert." portion of their requirement which means that military personell don't have to pay 150+ dollars for a concealed carry class.

That's not true in Texas. Here, military must still complete the classroom portion (minimum 10 hrs) of a concealed handgun course. All the military status does is lower the age requirement from 21, exempt you from the range proficiency part of the license requirement and get you a reduced fee from the state when you apply.

I have my Tx. Concealed Carry permit (I'm from Texas) and I was not expempt from the range portion. Not that I wanted to be any trigger time is good trigger time.

I was simply saying that for Flordia it does.

I didn't want an NC permit because its such a PITA in this area to get one. The Local law enforcement offices give you the serious run around. The Sheriff of Onslow county has been quoted as saying "I don't want Marine and Sailors running around the county with guns." I have to get a written letter from my CO to obtain permission to get a CCW permit or even a pistol permit to purchase a pistol in this area, a physical exam, and some other BS that is just stupid. NC, Tx, and Fl. all share recepricy(big time SP?).

I went home and bypassed the CO's permission thing because we don't do "pistol permits" and they accepted a copy of my military ID and LES instead of a letter from my CO.

The exemption is relatively new -

Sec. 411.1881 Exemption from Instruction for Certain Persons

It basically exempts (with some restrictions) active and honorably discharged military
