Change in OSHA Safety Standards Reoloading
Here's a heads up for you reloaders and people who store ammo or who like to just have ammo for their gun. OSHA wants to change the way materials for reloading ammo and ammo are classified. Here's the quote,"Mike Schiano brought this proposed change to OSHA standards to my
attention. I looked it up on the Government Regulations website (http://www.regulati and comments are due by 12 July. It's been posted since April. What it does is lump ammunition, powder, and primers together with all high explosives and mandates handling/shipping in the same way. Here's the operative section: "Explosive means any device, or liquid or solid chemical compound or mixture, the primary or common purpose of which is to function by explosion. "(i) The term ``explosive' Class 1 explosive by DOT in accordance with 49 CFR chapter I. The term includes, but is not limited to, dynamite, black powder, pellet powders, detonators, blasting agents, initiating explosives, blasting caps, safety fuse, fuse lighters, fuse igniters, squibs, cordeau detonant fuse, instantaneous fuse, igniter cord, igniters, pyrotechnics, special industrial explosive materials, small arms ammunition, small arms ammunition primers, smokeless propellant, cartridges for propellant-actuated power devices, and cartridges for industrial guns." And then it proposes handling regulations that equate ammunition to dynamite and would preclude mail order delivery and storage outside a magazine with stated safeguards. It would be the end of ammunition, powder, and primer sales over the internet or by mail order (commercial delivery means are non-existent) or storage in regular commercial establishments or even gun shows. If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd think someone was trying to end ammunition availability." This is scary stuff. If OSHA mandates these changes no one will be able to store, handle or transport ammo or its components if they are not in compliance with OSHA guidelines. I guess if Congress can't pass a gun ban they'll get a federal agency to do an end run on the 2nd Ammendment. I thought I would pass this along to you guys so the word can be spread.

I'm glad to hear OSHA pulled the changes. Sounds like they have been at this a while. I hope we persevere in our endeavors for our 2nd Ammendment rights.

Rush has been tearing OSHA up for trying to "back-door" gun control. Claims it proves that liberals have taken over every government agency.

Forgive me... but does OSHA have the power and authority to dictate what I do at home?
I thought OSHA's jurisdiction ended at the workplace.

It does... However the problem would be in getting those supplies to you or your gun store - the cost/availability would skyrocket...
it wouldn't make the supplies illegal, just prohibitively expensive. A outlawing by cost if you will.... |
