Freedom’s Voice Published by: NRA-ILA Grassroots Division 11250 Waples Mill Road Fairfax, Virginia 22030 Phone: (800) 392-8683 www.NRAILA.org JULY 2007 The Official Newsletter of NRA-ILA FROM THE TRENCHES NO APOLOGIESGlen A. Caroline, Director NRA-ILA Grassroots Division I recently visited some family in my former home state of Massachusetts. We had a great time and the weather was lovely, as it always is this time of year. But the one thing that struck me, as it always does, is how many in the cradle of liberty just don’t get it when it comes to our Second Amendment rights. Among the stops we made in Massachusetts was the Old North Bridge in Concord—site of the “shot heard round the world” fired in the opening battle of the Revolutionary War; a battle that was waged precisely because the King’s Army was attempting to confiscate the arms of defiant colonists. Not too far from the Old North Bridge is a new billboard put up by John Rosenthal, co-founder of the groups Stop Handgun Violence, Common Sense About Kids and Guns, and the American hunters and Shooters Association (need I say more?). The billboard is located outside of Fenway Park, a very prominent location, just off the well-traveled Mass Turnpike. The message of the billboard implies that NRA is in total control of the U.S. Congress and the White House. I’ve debated John in the past, and he is what I call a “gun owner-but.” (Yes, that’s “but” with one “t”.) That is, he likes to talk about how he is a gun owner and shooter, “but”.... What follows this three letter word is a litany of restrictions on the rights of law-abiding gun owners, all of which have one thing in common—they do not affect criminals, but do negatively impact law-abiding citizens. You’ve heard it before, “Well, I’m a gun owner, but I see nothing wrong with licensing and registration.” Or, “I’m a hunter, but I don’t think anyone needs an ‘assault weapon’.” While NRA has been very successful in recent years in defeating gun control legislation and passing pro-gun reforms, the reason for these accomplishments is nothing nefarious— it is due to your active participation! In fact, our victories represent everything good about America; something over which our forefathers waged a war to free us from our parent nation—a government of, by, and for the people, where our elected officials work for us, and not the other way around. I make no apologies that NRA does the best job of any group in America in educating and empowering our members and supporters to get involved in our system of government that we are so lucky to have. That represents all that’s right with our country— like-minded citizens banding together to make their views know to their elected officials. And in our case, what could be more important than preservation of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution? Of course, groups that don’t have the same level of broad-based grassroots support for their positions choose to attack NRA because our base of support is wide and deep. However, rather than criticizing NRA for actively engaging millions of Americans in our system of governance, perhaps they should be asking themselves why they have been such dismal failures in doing so themselves. Of course, I have a few thoughts on this subject.

Great article, NRA Girl.

if you haven't heard anything, there may have been a glitch in your registration. Call them up (quickest way to get an answer) and tell them that you signed up and haven't recieved anything. They should be able to handle it right away. If not, PM me with your info and I'll take it down and take care of it myself!

I still have not heard back from them even after calling months ago. I've officially lost count of how many times I've tried to get involved with this now. Fewer than 10, but more than 5. |
