Hehe, well at least we know how to drag out JUDGE from hiding.
Just thought it was a humorous, yet true commentary. I'm not diving into another heated debate, we've all been there done that. Flame away judge. |

Yep, welcome to the world where everyone gets unfairly pidgeonholed. The world everyone really lives in....for better or worse.
There is always a group out there that makes their living off of portraying others in a wrong light. Look at Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. They would probably take one look at me and think I was the descendant of slave owners (even though my ancestors entered the USA over 100 years after it was abolished) or that I have some sort of "advantage" because I am white (could somebody please tell me where I can pick up my whitey advantage, please LOL). I have a prediction that as time goes on ..if you are right (and I have no reason to doubt you) that true Muslims WILL grow tired of the portrayals as terrorists and begin to police their own and call the extremists out just as I will gladly denounce abortion clinic bombers, Pat Robertson and many on the far religious Christian right as those that are not what our religion is all about. It will happen...it might take some time because this is something that Muslims have not yet had to deal with on a large scale. I will tell you that the more that true Muslins speak out and educate the non-Muslim world...the easier it will make life on all of us. You also have to realize that 9-11 was not than long ago and it might be a long time before airport security does not pull you aside and check all your items before you get on a plane. And then there will always be a certain number of people that will continue to hate others that do not look or act just like them, no matter what you do. Those people are the ones we must write off as idiots, ignor them and go about our lives, not giving them the time of day. - Brickboy240

I will believe it when I see it. I've simply seen very, very few muslims protest and many cheer when 9/11 happened.
AND - I'm only talking about the 'devout' muslims, not all the people who live in muslim countries. Many here call themselves christian, but aren't, and I know many call themselves muslim but aren't devout. I simply reference the devout, who follow the koran zealously believing it as the guide to their life. And from those, I've seen very, very little condemnation. Quote:

The Muslims I know and are friends with, say, they view the extremists and the 9-11 hijackers much like we do the Waco cult leader, Jim Jones and other extremist Christian leaders that do awful things. Yes, I remember the Palistinians jumping for joy in the streets when the planes hit the buildings, but not all Muslims feel that way. With our support of Israel, sure, the Palistenians are going to hate America probably more than other Muslims, but thats another post.
The one thing I have gleaned from my Muslim friends (mainly legal immigrants from Kuwait) is that they have never had to denounce radical members of their own faith on such a large scale and in such a public way and it goes against the teachings of Islam to do so (Nikon...is this making any sense?). I don't claim to be an expert on their faith, but as time goes by, they will be forced to either condemn the radicals or support them. Also, remember, many Muslims live in countries where speaking out against the radicals will get their heads cut off or other nasty consequences. This does not necessarily mean they all detest the west and wish us dead. I know too many Muslims that live here and like America and wish they could bring their whole family here to live. If they hated us THAT much...why would they want to live amongst us infidels? Thats the biggest problem in all of this: it will take time for the Muslims to police their own and call them out, but I really think they'll do it when the pressure comes to bear. There is probably as much disinformation amongst mid-east Muslims about westerners/Christians/anglos as there is amongst us about them and their ways. Geography alone has made it to where anyhting but Chrtsianity seems foreign/odd and threatening to us, but that will probably change as time goes by. This doesn't mean I am for easing up on keeping an eye on those here on visas, though. Sorry that they see it as discrimination or profiling, but its just the world we live in today. I understand why people are nervous and apprehensive. - Brickboy240
