Don't do anything "rash" when you find him.
That sucks. I had all my power tools stolen a few years ago. I was using them and went inside to get some tea and cool off for a few minutes and when I came out they were gone. I kind of feel your pain. Sorry to hear that. I wouldn't imagine things like that to happen in Alaska.

Your right, thieves are the lowest and even though its just "stuff", it makes you feel violated when they intrude to take it.

The thing that bothers me about people who go onto somebody else's property to steal stuff is that you can't do it by accident. It is not like you are walking along, all of a sudden find yourself in somebody's garage, and then think, "Hey, aren't those my tools?!" and then pick them up and carry them home before you realize they aren't. You can kill somebody by accident easier than you can trespass and steal. You can be driving along in a neighborhood and a kid runs out in front of your car. You can be wrestling around with a friend and hit their head against something and kill them. What I've never heard happening is accidentally breaking down somebody's door and stealing their TV. But, since the law sees it as a crime against property and not a person (which is silly since you don't know this until the crime is over), the offender gets a slap on the wrist.
My theory is that burglary being a property crime is only part of the reason it doesn't have a stiffer punishment. Another part of it is the difficulty in proving a case. Even if there is evidence, prosecutors are more than willing to accept a "receipt of stolen goods" plea to avoid a trial. But, I think a large part of it has to do with the fact that people are still going to be thieves and making the penalty stronger might encourage more violent behavior if they knew they would get sent to prison anyway. Sort of like a career criminal with two strikes in a state with a three-strike law. |

Dang Indy, that sucks. I can understand how you feel, we had a woodsplitter stolen last year in November. Luckily, we got it back the same day.
Good luck man, I hope you find the piece of trash.
