I'm with Lobster, kind of "wh'd a thunk it would happen up there?"
13 years ago a buddy of mine moved up to the Dakotas, Wyoming, somewhere up there; anyway, I asked what it was like besides cold. He said Russel Means and the boys run a pretty tight ship; if you're not working, you'd better be a Native or else they'll put you on a train out of there!

I totally understand. This last weekend someone broke into my car on the driver front. Completely tore up the molding and the door. Then they did not take anything. Nothing!

Either they got completely spooked, or was looking for something and did not find it. When **** like this happens I kinda point to someone you know. At least in my case.

I went to Memphis to go range shooting with some friends. I can't help but think that someone found out about me having a gun, and thought it would be in my car, but then.....it could have been some thugs walking in the city and got spooked.

Either way it has been a friggin' nightmare to resolve. A total pain in the ass.

In my state, crossing the thresh-hold of your domicile without consent is justification for deadly force. That means if someone busts down your door, and even just their big toe crosses the threshold of the door frame, it is justifiable to shoot 'em up....but to be smart, you should probably wait until both big toes are across the threshold.

This, however, only applies to your domicile (i.e. the place you live and sleep)...
So if they break into your shed out back, or the RV parked outside (that you aren't currently living in) deadly force is NOT permitted--it is then viewed as a crime against property.

Each state may differ, some.

Anyway, I agree there is nothing worse than a theif.
I live in a pretty good area, out of city limits. It gets pretty dark at night...but there are dogs around the bark when something is out of place (coyote's in the fall, ugh!). I do have an HD shotgun and handgun, however.
In my last residence I had two different vehicles broken into two different times...the first time I didn't awake to the glass shattering. The second time, I did...it was summer and my bedroom window was open (in the locked position--about 4"). Got their tag #...they didn't take anything. Local PD never caught 'em.

Talk about feeling violated and enraged...theives SUCK!

Sorry it happened and I also wish you had caught the bastard in the act!

+1 on the good old ass whoopin' Lee. Not only feels good, you generally leave enough of the cracka@@ left for the police and trial - not to mention that you would not be brought up on certain charges.

I'd say there is a good chance you are right. A good friend of mine had his house cleaned out by burglars while at work. No forced entry. Guns, jewelry, musical instruments. and so on. They knew where all the good stuff was located. When somebody steals that much high dollar stuff in a small town it is hard to cover the tracks, and they eventually got caught. He had some work done on a bathroom remodel two years prior to the burglary and one of the workers had gotten the key from the contractor and duplicated it. Lesson learned. Today this guy doesn't even want "friends of friends" coming over to his new house.

When I was in college I had a nice little home studio. (Well, I still do, but it is mostly computer-based now.) Recording musicians required that I got used to guys coming over. But, I knew 99% of them pretty well. One night I played as a guest member in a band and their guitar player came over after the show and I showed him my set-up hoping his band would want to pay me to record them. It wasn't two weeks later that 7000 dollars worth of equipment decided to grow legs and walk right out of my apartment.

I'd say the people on here who post their gun collections need to be especially careful about revealing their identity. Even if you have a 2 ton safe bolted into concrete and 10 hungry dogs, it still sucks to have your home broken into.

That is something I try to get people to understand, it doesn't cost anyone anything to break into their car for example. Why place stickers (advertising stereo or performace parts), leave CDs, change, or anything in view in the car. Or you get the people who think its cool to cruise around mall parking lot with stereo turned up, then can't figure out why while they were seeing a movie someone knew they had a system in their car.
