Another Bike Patrol Formed...

Like the one in Connecticut that is causing quite the uproar, there is a bike patrol neighborhood watch forming in a local suburb of Lancaster, Pa. Just thought it was interesting that these are starting to pop up in more and more places.

sounds good to me. Lancaster has a fair amount of trouble doesn't it?

Why would being part of a patrol have anything to do with your ability to carry?

An unarmed bike patrol is an awesome idea. Once you start carrying in those patrols though, you open yourself up to those who want to call you vigilantes.

it has nothing to do with the ability to carry. in fact, maybe they do carry...they just haven't come out with that fact publicly, as did the cats in connecticut.

lancaster is pretty bad (almost 90 shootings since january), but where they are patrolling is not lancaster city...they are in manheim twp (where the triple murder happened recently...). manheim twp used to be the hoity-toity part of the area, but cookie-cutter housing development is changing that. also, i've seen so many "father figure" types at the range lately who say, "yeah...after the murders, i thought i should get something to protect my family with." at least they are out trying to learn how to shoot...

but maybe i made that up

Concealed = good. It's not vigilantism if it's used in self defense. They're not pro-actively seeking out criminals to shoot at.

I dunno, just sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. They are out to seek crime. If they happen to use their weapon even in self defense while out seeking crime, the jury is going to question that.

What jury would that be? It's up to the district attorney to decide whom to prosecute. Why would you think a jury would ever be involved in a righteous s.d. shooting?

Are they actually seeking crime? I think I would argue they are trying to make a presense know to prevent crime. If they happen to witness crime fine but I don't think that is the goal.

Just like putting signs up for survalence and alarm systems, the goal is to prevent the crime not catch the BG.

Right, they're there to be witnesses should they see a crime. They're not there to police the neighborhood. The newspaper made it clear that they are only there to be eyes and ears of the police to assist.
