Need a Flashlight
I would like to carry a flashlight and was wondering if I could get some help as to which one to get? I am willing to pay around $100. I have heard of SureFire, however I would like to know what people carry and which brand?
Thanks! |

I have a surefire G-2 and its a great little light but the battery life is so so. I saw a light at Lowes thats around $54.00, uses LED's and i THINK takes AAA batteries. The brightness was spectacular and the battery life was supposed to be very high. Im going to pick on up sometime, ill let everyone know what I think.
You cant go wrong with a Surefire though.

I have the Surefire polymer G2 ($35) as well as the more expensive E2D model ($100).
Both are superb, battery life is always going to be short on these high intensity lights. Usually around 60 minutes total and both give you 65 lumens I believe. The polymer G2 is TOUGH and works just as good as the more expensive model, plus it is lighter Streamlight also makes great flashlights, I have their rechargable STINGER model as well. However, it is a bit longer, about 7 12". But the rechargable feature is nice because you can charge it in the house OR in your vehicle. Streamlight also makes smaller flashlights, I'd recommend that you check out both brands, you won't be sorry no matter which you choose.

For $100, here are two options:
a. Buy a Streamlight Scorpion (2 x CR123A batteries) at 114 lumens - the brightness cannot be beat at this price - about $35 ==> OR b. Buy a SureFire nitrolon G2 - about $36 - all plastic with about 65 lumens, but lots of color choices ==> AND Add a SureFire Nitrolon G3 - three cells - 105 lumens This way you get a pocket carry AND a nightstand light for $100. For your next $100, get a Streamlight TLR-1 for about $100+s/h to put on your XD of choice |

Going with an LED light will get you longer runtimes. Whatever you get if it's LED make sure it has a the new Cree LED. Much better brightness and runtime than Luxeon. I have a G2 and it's been great but eats batteries. I also picked up a TLR-3 LED cheap it's just as bright and runs 15 + hours on set of batteries. I don't own one yet but I'm about to pick up one of the Fenix lights. Google "fenix, ligths".

I bought one at Target. It is a 3 watt single LED, takes three AA batteries and comes in all aluminum body. Can be had in black, grey or aluminum colors. Bright as hell! Its about 4.5 inches long and battery life is excellent. Price? $36.00

For carry, buy a Fenix p3D ce. Research this light, you will find excellent reviews.

I carry a surefire 6PD with rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries and an LED head.
Also note, Surefire lumens != Streamlight lumens. For lighting up a room, I'd take a stock G2 over a Streamlight Stinger any day. You need to see the two of them to appreciate the difference. If this thread is still around and I have the energy, I'll take beamshots of a stock Surefire 6P, my modified Surefire 6PD, and a fully charged Streamlight Stinger.

Fenix P1D CE is awesome. For around $65 it has seemed to outpreform any surefire in its size class or even near it. max output is 135 lumens.
