I have two Surefire G2s - one at home...next to the 96 Beretta for HD and the other is in the console of my Tundra. Great lights. One I have had for about 5 years and have beaten it around quite a bit. Still works fine.

However, I found a Brinkman Maxifire at Wal Mart for about 19 dollars and I swear, its very similar to the G2 in performance. I stuck that one in my wife's car and bought another that I placed in another strategic place in the home where I might need a light at night.

If you want to save 10-12 bucks from the G2...the Brinkman is not a bad alternative. I have no idea if it will stand the abuse I have dished out to the G2 that has gone hunting and on nighttime ATV rides and out in the rain, but so far they have held up fine.

PS - e-bay is a great place to get bulk 123A lithium batteries...don't go to a store...they're outrageous to buy retail.

Check this out. I'm going to try it myself just to see how it works.

Agree....in fact, I have not one, not two, but THREE of them (two 3 watt and one 1 watt).

Yup, a great light. I had mentioned that a few posts back. Bought one just yesterday.

Here it is along with my 3 Rayovacs - which, BTW are really the same light as a Nuwai X-3 ....a super light for the money (maybe why I have 3)
http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/nuwai_x-3.htm

Here's my Rayovacs/Nuwais and my Brinkman....as I had said, the Brinkman was the first non-LED light I've bought in a while. And VERY much like my Surefire G2...let's see. On the left it the $4 Dorcy I talked about. On top is the Brinkman. The three identical looking torches are the Rayovac/Nuwai lights. Far right is my Inova X03 and the little guy between the Rayovacs is my Ultrafire Cree C-3 that is ALWAYS in my pocket (at least until I get my new Fenix which I hope lives up to expectations). I was thinking about posting pics of all my lights, but it would take a scavenger hunt to find them all and besides, most are pretty old. Brightest is a big old Mag with an LED conversion. (Other than a couple of big old rechargeable lead cell floodlights).

Peace,
D.

I did that...works as advertised. Only problem is you are still stuck with the original switch and lens. But for under $10, it's a powerful light. I gave it to my son and he used it along with his other lights on duty on his submarine (where a light is ALWAYS necessary). He liked the idea of not having to worry about losing or breaking it. He said too many expensive Surefires went missing (and everyone engraved their names on everything....even wrote their names in their caps).

I wouldn't bother doing it again since the Brinkman gives you the same light essentially for $19 at Walmart and has a "reverse clicky" instead of the cheap switch of the Eveready $5 light and it has a clear glass lens, and a rubber "shroud" that makes the light far more comfortable to hold and less likely to slip out of your hand. Also has a scalloped bezel so if you put the light down head first on a flat surface, you won't forget that the light is on (if it is).

It was a fun project though. And very easy to do. I was able to cut the inside plastic with a long sharp blade...didn't have to sand or drill...two minute job.

Peace,
D.

Yeh, I think I'm probably going to add a couple more. For some reason, I keep buying flashlights (at 3-4 a year). I think it started after a power outage hit my campus during finals week and I didn't have my light with me.

I don't know how many times I've heard, "How many *explicative* flashlights does a man need!?!"

Was in Walmart again today. Figured I'd give a second notice on what I mentioned in this thread a couple pages back...

The Dorcy? "Metal Gear" flashlights are still on sale for $4!

This is a pretty nice light at the regular price (I think close to $20).

At $4, including batteries....well take out the value of the batteries alone, and the light is selling for what? Something close to one dollar?

They seem to have re-stocked too - there were a ton of them on display! In both silver and black finishes.

Peace,
D.
