I have both a Surefire G2 and a Streamlight Twin-task. It depends on your needs. I find the G2 very bright and sometime a little too much light for reading maps in the car. This is were the Twin-task is really nice. It is both a LED and a Incadescent flashlight. If you need a very bright light the Surefire is the way to go but it will cost you more to operate it (Just like the cars people drive Mercedes vs Chevy). Right now I am looking at getting a Surefire L1 Lumanmax. This is a LED light that has dual output. At max output, the L1 kicks out 65 lumens (over 3 times the output of a two-D cell Maglight) and at low output of 10 lumens. And because it is LED, I'll get good runtime. Hope this helps

Just a heads up......
I was in Walmart today and I notice that they had the Dorcy LED (3 AAA battery model) on sale for $4!!!! Not sure what they normally sell for. The "regular" marked price was $18. My guess is it usually sells for less, but definitely not THAT much less. Anyway, decent light...and for $4, including batteries, really hard to pass up. I bought four (hurricane season....can't have too many flashlights). Not a pocket light by any means, but a practical and solid light for around the house. Decent throw, pretty bright. $4!!!!! Also picked up a Brinkman Maxifire (just because). First non LED light I've bought in a while. $20, Xenon bulb, two C123 lithium cells. Seems indestructible. A lot like my Surefire G2 (only Surefire I own), except replacement bulbs are a couple of dollars instead of $15 or so for the Surefire. (And easier to get). Although I admit I've never burned out the original bulb on my G2...well over a year. On the other hand, I probably haven't used it all that much (hour-wise). My EDC? A cheap Ultrafire Cree C-3. Always in my pocket....right with my Kel-Tec P32 - good things in small packages. LOLl Peace, D.

I have been using the $35 Surefire G2 over here in Iraq for the past 6 months as have many of my Marines. Let me tell you this is a bad ass little tac light. I have beat the crap out of it. I did have to do one reflector/bulb change but the replacemant only cost me $10. I dont think I will buy another light. If you want a metal body get the g2z. It is not as big around and is more suited to being mounted to a rifle. Its also easier to hold between your fingers. But still if you want a cheap light that is really bright and COMBAT PROVEN, get the $35 G2. Just my $.02 -Rob

Recently purchased a Fenix P2D CE and have it with me wherever I go. It's not much bigger than the P1D and comes with a clicker. Couldn't be happier with it.

Inova makes great stuff. I have an Inova X03 - (maybe my favorite LED flashlight)....the newer version without the TIROS lens. It is bright and incredibly well made. This thing can be run over with a tank and probably survive without a scratch! Made from a solid block of aluminum and anodized with military grade HA-III - truly indestructible.
Would be nice if they'd come out with versions with Cree or Seoul emitters, but the Luxeon is pretty darn efficient. (I'm guessing the Luxeon "Rebel" will show up soon). Good enough for LE and military applications, certainly good enough for me. And a bargain compared to Surefire prices (for comparable lights). Quote:

Well, I finally picked up a new every day carry flashlight. I'd finally settled on surefire but this seemed like a cheaper alternative until I could get the money (and then someone had a surefire weaponlight for an amazing deal that included a tape switch and IR filter that I just couldn't pass with
My new everyday carry: http://www.rayovac.com/flashlight/selux2aa3w-b.shtml I've very impressed with it. Throws a beam pretty well and I'm still on my first set of batteries.
