The light that was mentioned at the hardware store is called "Coast" It is pretty darn bright. I have somthing similar by Dorcy that runs on 3 AAA. For my actually carry flashlight/nightstand light I carry the Streamlight TL-2 LED. It runs at full for 1.5 hours than drops off.
The Surefire G2 is also a great light and I have it mounted to my shotgun.

I am more than pleased with my Inova T-2 LED. It is a bit brighter than the G-2 and batteries seem to last longer. Check them out at Inova.com, but I bought mine from Brightguy.com, (several bucks cheaper).
US Concealed Carry is currently testing a new flashlight each week. Check it out. |

100 bucks?
Ok, spend 35 on the Surefire G2 and the rest on a carying case, bulb upgrade and spare batteries and call it good. Seriously, I have two G2s and love them. One is kept in the truck and goes all over the ranch with me, through all sorts of dirty, rainy, dusty conditions and has wethered it all without a hitch. The other is bedside...right next to the loaded 96 Beretta and spare magazines and does duty as the home defense light. I love the Surefire G2s. I am sure the more expensive ones are nice, but for most people's needs, the 35 dollar G2 is really hard to beat. I bought mine in yellow. Why? Because if I ever drop it in the dark or out on the ranch in the tall grass or leaves, I would never find the black, green or camo models! Yellow shows up well. My vote is for the Surefire G2. - Brickboy240

i have heard coast are good flashlights, i dont have one myself i just have a big skull cracker 4-6 cell maglite in each of my three vehicles.
Heres a link for a coast flashlight for $14.97 regular price $170 (i think they are german ). anyways i would never pay $170 but $14 sounds like a steal, and sportsmens guide is 100 % satifaction guaranteed as always. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=358980&pn=1 |

I bought a $30 Brinkman at Walmart and used it in a low light IDPA match. It worked great. I had no issues laying it on the floor, or even dropping it. The ones with $100 Surefires babied their flashlights. Were the Surefire ones $70 better? I think not. I'd rather buy three Brinkman's than one Surefire. I can leave one in the car, one by my nightstand and one in my kitchen.
On a side note, for home defense I feel it's better to have a flashlight that broadcasts its light than one that holds it in a straight beam. A narrow beam only illuminated the target during the IDPA match. A wider broadcast would do that AND the area around it. Once you get your flashlight, you must practice aiming and dry firing in the dark. Clear your house or garage at night with your flashlight and empty gun. Practice aiming. It's a bit odd at first.

You are talking about the coast LED flashlights. Very good one for the cost. I have the older one. Very bright out to 100 yards. The new ones you can focus.
Mine is good for about 50 hours. But only about 10 hours if you still want it to be really bright. the other 40 hours it is still bright, but not enough for tactical use. steve

I also have both brands and will attest that the G2 lights up a room a little bit better, (not far better, but a little better).
However, I would not go as far to say that the Surefire is superior above and beyond the Stinger. They both have their place and the Stinger is nice to have recharging in a vehicle 24/7, especially in emergency situations that i use it in (narcotic searches at 3:00am and Fire/Emergency Rescue). Also having the ability to have charging cradles in both the home and the vehicle. Surefire is smaller and lighter (and much cheaper initially) and I love it, but running low on juice when you really need it isn't an option (although the shelf life on the batteries is good enough that it is reasonable to throw a few extra's in the car). Batteries only last an hour and are expensive to keep replacing. For a nightside light or IDPA, I'd opt for the G2 for $35. I've dropped it several times onto concrete and it's tough as nails!
