Trust me, this is only the beginning. He is only stating what the rest of the democratic field is thinking and some of the republicans as well. There is a very good chance we will see another AWB in the near future, the only thing to be decided is how restrictive will it be.

You can be with a Democratically control Congress and a Democratic President in the White House in 08, the assault on the Second Amendment will be like no other we have seen in recent times. Make all the arguments you want…….common sense will not be tolerated in this debate.

Continue to support the NRA, continue to write your elected officials and stay ever vigilant but in the end, prepare for what I am afraid is coming.

If you want that AR or AK, don’t put it off buy it soon. Stock up on high capacity magazines now as they will surly be the first to go. Afterwards, if you can even find them, they will be extremely expensive. I can remember the last AWB, $20 Glock high capacity magazines were going for $120 almost over night.

Don’t put it past them to go after the ammunition and reloading components this time around, the proposed new OSHA guidelines was an attempt to backdoor gun control and may be a sign of things to come.

I could have told you this awhile ago. I saw it in his response when I contacted him about HR 1022:

I respect the Second Amendment and responsible gun ownership. But I am also concerned about the human consequences of guns falling into the wrong hands and being misused. I do not find objectionable the goal of keeping firearms out of the hands of children, terrorists, gang members and criminals in general. The question for me is how to best accomplish that goal without abridging the rights of hunters, sportsmen, and other legitimate gun owners. As I consider gun legislation, I will work to find the appropriate balance between these two objectives.

For example, Senator David Vitter (R-LA) in response to complaints about the confiscation of firearms during the recovery from Hurricane Katrina offered an amendment that would prohibit such confiscations, along with additional registration requirements and restrictions on the right to carry, in areas hit by natural disaster. I voted for this amendment. On the other hand, I support the re-imposition of the ban on the sale of assault weapons that expired two years ago because I believe these guns are used primarily for criminal rather than sporting intent.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I look forward to keeping in touch.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
United States Senator
Typical fricking Chicago politician. I don't even know why I bother contacting him over 2A stuff.

During the awb was it illegal to own them or just to buy them? What I'm asking is if another ban comes do they come and take them?

Could they ever come and take our weapons? I know they did during Katrina but do you think they would try on a national level?

There are plenty of countries around the world (DC) where you can not own a hand gun or any gun. I can see them trying something like this here.

I live SW of Chicago but my office is in the Loop. Sen. Obama is one of the two problem people representing Illinois in the Senate. The other being Dick Durbin who referred to our troops as Nazis.

Sen. Obama is using a hot button topic and playing to the heart strings of families devastated by the loss of children due to gun violence. The problem here is that the vast majority of the inner city killings are gang related and accomplished with handguns. This is happening in Chicago which has one of the most restrictive handgun ordinances in the country. Do you think that this has stopped the criminals from getting or using handguns? NO!

This is just another attempt by a politician to shore up his support base and not dealing with the underlying issues.

During the ban, the further manufacture and sales of "assault weapons" were illegal. If you already owned one, you could hang onto it.

Very true, but what type of ban and how far might they go in the future? If they keep it up, we may someday see this mentality become a ban on ownership of a firearm. LEO and Military being the exception.

The beauracratic mentality (both parties) of taking care of us and protecting us, MAKES ME SICK. They chide us with fear, then take more away in the name of protection. What was that quote about liberty and freedom?

It's another attempt by a politician to increase the number of voters on his side by targeting the mindless, uneducated folks who follow someone who is acting like he's going to make changes. If you add in a dash of critical thinking here and evaluate the true problem, none of Osama's suggestions are going to solve any of the problems he's attempting to address.
