Folks, I ran LE firearms training/qualifications for 12 years. Some of the people I got "blessed with" as reserves knew next to nothing about handguns when they signed on, and a number of the regulars brought their own bad habits.

In that entire time we had exactly one, down-range ND, and NO gunshot injuries. We did have one shooter, one time, who got hit in the forehead by a piece of jacket material from an out-of-time S&W M686.

I know Front Sight is a popular, widely respected school. Well, I don't care who you are- if you have three accidental gunshot wounds on your range in four years, something is wrong. I won't guess at what it is, but something sure is.

Articles like the above linked article are one of the major reasons I bought an XD and not a Glock (not to mention the XD is cooler, sharper looking and fits my hand like a glove ). Reloads even ones not completely sized right should not be the cause of a Kaboom. If the ammunition is size poorly enough to cause problems with the action locking up then I would think that it’s the gun design's responsibility to not fire out of battery. An XD will not fire if the slide is out of battery by just a little bit. It seems the Glocks interlocks are not as particular. Combine this greater out of battery tolerance with the already unsupported chamber and its no wonder that the occasion Glock goes Kaboom.

IMHO a gun design should not rely on the brass cartridge as a structural part of the chamber. The brass is only there to contain the propellant, bullet and primer and to facilitate the transportation of those components from the magazine to the chamber and aid in the sealing of the chamber during firing never as the sole structural member anywhere. So even if you have a slightly out of battery firing along with the unsupported area of the chamber you suddenly have a relative large area of brass that is the sole pressure bearing material and the very likely cause of a Kaboom. Bad idea in my mind.

invssgt talking about out of time smith and missings i dont know if ive ever qualified and not came off the line without shaved lead in my face arms or some place every time we qualify lmaooooo God knows i know the kind of people your talking about with bad habits and they always seem to get nurtured through the qualifing you sure as hell know who you dont want to be out with and who you do.
i seen a kid drop 3 live rounds out of his cylinder 2 times on the line range master walked up picked up his rounds and said here put these back in mabe you'l qualify i shook my head, kid was shaking like a dog ****ting razor blades and im like calm down its just you and me here no one else... never cecese to amaze me where we get some of these people from..
thank God weve got new blood runing the range now and no tollorance for that kind of crap people are getting job changed if they cant qualify now in the alloted time
